Red Diesel?

Because construction uses far more red diesel than ag and making them using white diesel equates to millions or even billions in tax revenue I believe.
Yes id say this is the whole reason & all of construction weither they like it or not can pass it on, yes the end customer is ultimately footing this bill.
Gov just finding easy targets to claw all off the pandemic spend back in one way or the other

It was planned for before the pandemic and actually been put off for a year. I think this may be why there hasn't been more uproar about it as many may have thought it had been shelved when it didn't happen.

I just don't understand why they are using red diesel as a vehicle for it. It's pointless.
Because red diesel is an easy target that’s worth billions to the treasury.
It’s also been a thorn in there side for years because it’s so open to abuse! By restricting access to multiple sectors it reduces the opportunity to be misused.
misuse = loss in tax revenue, so win win for gov.

They will regret the day they do away with it or make likes of us the farmers have tax rights to claim the same amount of duty back on white. Thats even more open to abuse
Ive had diesel Cars here for over 25years now & not once ever considered putting Red in there tanks.

Save yourself the headache and let the contractor sort what diesel he runs his machine on. We will have to run our hired in plant on white from April 1st and we will have to charge accordingly, whether it's farm work or a patio. If you don't like the extra few quid an hour then get someone else that wants to take the risk.

Been told stone will go up £3/tonne in April. That's going to be a bit of a sh1t as we get through a lot but what can you do?

I doubt they will do away with it all together for that very reason, it with be far easier to regulate supply rather than be monitoring everyone making rebate claims.

Fish farming and fishing can claim the road duty back off their petrol for use in outboard motors. The fish farms around here will go through a lot of petrol. They have numerous outboard powered craft, a 100hp outboard will burn about 30l/h. Always thought it was unfair that a farmer can't do the same for off road use in quad bikes.

If they didn't make them exempt they'd have to police them and they wouldn't want to do that.
Talking with a local copper we know well last week.

His thoughts on Travellers and their fuel usage was not for the faint hearted. He really hates that they are not allowed to just stop the transit pickups, and get them crushed when on red. ..
