Reseeding grass proven a waste of time?

quite agree, we are moving that way, after losing 80 acres, the problem is, we need to get the grass sorted to help us get there. the less money going out on rent, the less running around, the less imputs, already has shown us that

All wants soil sampling and if you are reseeding it this autumn it will need to be sprayed off before long so it sits dead to get the frit fly out of it.

You just cant beat nature. If you go at grass hard and we get a hot dry summer nothing much likes it im afraid. Needs to be left alone to go to head and hunker itself down. It goes into survival mode, 1 tiller grows a head and it hides away.

Cutting leys very tight also gives the bigger tetraploids a big headache. They dont like it at all.

The addition of timothy gets my vote, tough stuff and you can go up to 2kg an acre.

Keep sowing rates of grasses high, better ground cover, yield and persistence. I would only go lower if clover is included.

Still see some of my leys from time to time mostly going strong. I think leaving them alone to grow in spring for a cut in May allows them time to replenish their toots and meristem/crowns.

80 acres of grass is a lot for anyone you need a proper agronomist to walk and look after that as a cock up will be murder expensive.

were your leys pearse seeds?

I will use the same varieties and I do try to replace the nutrients removed,as you say potash being the main one.
Hello! If you have bad soil in your garden, you can reseed grass a million times and it will waste your time. It is better to use the services who understand something in this. I have a big garden and for many years I could not achieve a perfect grass. Thanks to http://beechesgardenservices.co.uk my garden looks like Eden! Beautiful green grass and nothing more.

Yes, I used to work for them, but the vast majority of the ones I sold were made up to my own specification. Where you buy grass seed from is secondary to the choice of varieties used and the respective weights in each pack.
took soil samples today.
interesting to see cocksfoot, fesques, timothy coming back in fashion. i'm wondering whether our leys were hit hard last year, and the bottom filled out with annual meadow grass, which has now died off in the 2019 drought
