could always buy one ready made and with a catching door ,
can use your own hurdles to make a 6x 6 ft pen instead of buying the whole pen from them but their hurdles are actually good as well, easy opening catches and a good height 42 inches iirc.
trouble is everything's gone up in price theses days.

but a whole shearing pen with a couple of gated hurdles in it makes a good general purpose handling pen actually as well.
and comes with complete with expanded galv, steel floor to keep them clean ,important when shearing out of it of course.
floor can be plywood sheet, couple of 8ft sheets cut down for easy handling of them when moving / packing away./transporting ...to suit will be fine ,although a rubber cubicle type mat makes for a softer one ...........but just a bit slippyier not quite so good for holding the sheep in place .
but shouldnt be too much of a prob wi yer moccasons on ...........:sneaky:

Once you've used a shearing race (either a free standing one or one on a trailer) you'll wonder why anybody ever shears out of a pen.

There's no dragging 'em out of a pen and cowping 'em over - it's all 'downhill' out of a race. Much easier IMHO.

Google The Sheep Game and see what Cammy uses.

Hard work if your on your own though. I have a mudge pen for when I’m shearing on my own and a race trailer when there’s 2 of use and have help. A pen might seem a lot of money but will last a lifetime and are excellent built.

I have seen these are seem like a really good bit of kit which I want to get eventually, once I know I have clients.

I was looking to make something like this to get me started, I know it will mean a lot more work to start with.

Just can't find any measurements for this style anywhere.

The board is just 4ft x 4ft plyboard.
25mm box section would be heavy enough for the frame (to attach the board to)

Round pipe is good for the stand, to hang the machine from. Need to make a socket to connect the board to the stand - so that it's all dismantleable and can be put in the back of a pickup etc easily

Can't remember the height the machine should be hung at, but it's simple to do laying on the ground. The (flexi) drive should only just touch the ground and no more - some like it only just clearing the ground

I made a stand, will take some photos to give you an idea

Here's my stand @LukeMcCullagh I just used what I had lying around in the scrap/spare piles so it could be better - but it's a good 17 or 18yr old now and still does fine, not a bad effort for when I was 20!

The board area is 5ft x 4ft (only because I had x2 2.5ftx4ft offcuts of plyboard - if they ever break or fail, I'll cut the frame down and make it 4ftx4ft when I buy a new sheet of ply).
I used angle iron but box for the bottom frame would be lighter and stronger. As i said it's just what I had available at home...

I used pipe for the upright, so used pipe for the socket. See I drilled a hole, welded a nut to the outer pipe and use a bolt to lock it all in place (welded an old bit of rebar to the bolt heat to make a handle). If you could use some nice box instead, you could do away with the bolt, as the 2 boxes would lock together and stop the upright from turning.

I should've took a measurement there of the upright to tell you how tall it is, but see with the machine in place it is basically the same length as the machine and flexi drive - the flexi touches down onto the board set like that. It's how I like my machine hanging but I'm aware some people prefer the flexi to not touch the ground.

I have a bracket bolts onto the top piece of the machine with another piece of tube, which slides onto the upright to hang the machine in the same position it is in the last pictures. again fixed with another welded nut and bolt so it's easy to fix in place and quick to take down. Sadly I can't show you that as it's on my 3-speed which is on my trailer, up at a mates (got 1 day shearing left to do this year).

Hopefully that gives you some ideas and a starting point to come up with something

That is brilliant thank you just what I was looking for, and kind of what I had in mind I was just going to make it so the platform splits in two and and I can use a couple of toggle clamps to pull it altogether.

If it's just to hang a machine up I've just got a stand which I tie to a gate or post and use a board on the ground. Then use a mudge style bracket to hang the machine on. It brakes up into 3 pieces to transport it.

I also made a little shearing door when I was 21 which folds in half to fit into a car. Don't use it so much now I have a shearing trailer though

Yeh that is the kind of thing I want just thought if the upstand can be hooked to the board gives m more options on where I can setup. Do you have a photo of the shearing door you made that would be really handy.

My main goal is that all the kit can be dismantled and assembled really quickly and just fit in the boot of my car with no problems.
