Has anyone any recent experience with navara’s snapping in half like they do…
Our 12 plate was recalled, inspected and passed by Nissan 2yrs ago (7-2-20). Yesterday it started opening up in the middle 🙈.
Insurance said there’s no claim because it hasn’t been in an accident and to contact Nissan. Nissan say they want it at their garage ( an hour away) for inspection. Gut feeling is they’ll wriggle out of it and turn around saying it’s not eligible for any kind of claim..

Bloody annoying when yesterday morning it was fine and maybe worth 5k+ today it’s scrap value, and I’m looking at stuff at 12-15k to replace it with something only 3 years younger.

Any thoughts?
Has anyone had any success with Nissan offering a unbeatable deal or compensation??

Nissans check would be like an mot,,it passed on the day and what it does afterwards is just bad luck .
Mines an 11 plate and was checked 4 years ago but it's the 3 ltr and I don't know if they are made in the same factory or country as 2.5 models
 
I don't have a nissan and never have but as far as I'm aware there has been no redesign of the chassis they just added extra plates/strengthening to the area which corrodes and snaps. I guess that's to make sure they get enough years of use before failing that its not nissans responsibility. Either way the fact they are no longer selling new pickups in the uk i guess means they won't need to bother looking after anyone like yourself too well. Having said that the scheme they did run buying the older ones back worked out very well for a few i know for which the chassis was the least of the issues they had but they got very good money considering.
No pickup is any better than any other for rot imho just the trouble area with the nissan does shows itself in a bit more extreme fashion than the others. The fact it appears ok and then "snaps" is as much to do with our mot testing than anything else. You'll be surprised how little pressure an mot tester is allowed to use to determine whether metalwork on a car is sound.

Maybe worth pointing out to Nissan that its a safety issue.
Quote Vauxhall Corsa front subframes which are replaced by Vauxhall on Warranty. Had a 58reg where this was done last year.
According to MoT tester this is done by Vauxhall to avoid a massive recall.

Looking at an 18 plate Navara at the minute. At this age is the chassis cracking still a problem?

youd might as well take it to their garage, worth a try even if they put up a fight.

worst case bring it home, take the butt off, get some plates laser cut, weld it up, paint (properly), put the butt back on, then hope the engine doesnt blow up ;)

I have had the same problem, inspected and painted 2yrs ago, now MOT failure with cracked chassis. Welding up was the first idea but after getting the back off the corrosion was so extensive that it became unviable. Had to stump for another pickup (L200) but did get a bit more than scrap for the old one, apparently there are people who don't cost their time properly to resurrect it.

Thanks for the replies so far….

Small update…we’ve spoken to a different Nissan dealer (still a 2hr round trip) and if we take it to them they’ll put it on a lift and take photo’s and create a short report whilst we wait, then send it (the report) to Nissan hq where it’ll take up to 6 weeks to get back to us🙄. We just fetch the pickup home same day. They said they had an identical situation a few months ago where Nissan payed out the market value of the pickup to the customer.

Absolutely true.
Took a car for service and pre MOT inspection to an HGV inspection trained mechanic. Basically the car should not have passed the two previous years, MOT testers are not allowed to knock and probe metal like an HGV tester is!

Mot tester at a local garage got a b****cking by inspector for using to big a hammer when doing tests
