would you really keep a terminal Charolais x as a ewei would go Charollais ,
..... makes a nice lamb ..but not having a 'normal' wool birth coat doesn't help at times nor does some lambs getting stuck if they are big ie not quite as easy lambing as Lleyn on Lleyn.
and Actually The x ewe lamb kept back for breeders ,can make a a nicer /easier grading lamb than than a straight Lleyn ewe as well, one of the rare occasions when Char. female is good commercially , ime . as long as wrong shaped pelvis or poor milkers arent kept (same as any breeding ewe) and no more char in them than that first x, kept .
Thanks thoughtful replyi would go Charollais ,

nice looking lambsChar every time.
I lamb outside in Devon to char in B flock and pure in A flock.
Char cross lambs weigh like lead and are easy lambing.
Resultant lamb is tight skinned and sort after in market.

Run 350 pedigree lleyn, March lambing, lowland Devon. Planning to drop half the lleyn to form a B flock, for feb lambing to catch earlier market for fat lambs. Don't want to creep feed. Need to choose good terminal sire for lleyn. Suffolk or Charolais? Discuss
