Just looking into getting a new pickup which do people find is the better engine? Looking at their figures the 2.8 seems better on fuel is this possible my gut feeling is I think the 2.8 would be better but we don’t do that much heavy towing anymore as we use a tractor for livestock hauling also the 2.8 only comes in the higher spec models than I ideally wanted

I’ve had several hilux over the years, currently on 13th and never had issues with engine size.currently got 2.4 litre engine and regularly tow 2.8 ton mini digger on trailer with zero problems.only travel at 40/50 mph which is plenty fast enough Aswell.if they had 400 hp people would still want more power.

Thanks for that. I think I’ll be happy enough with a 2.4 just the mpg figures seem better for the 2.8 which made me think

Just swapped mine went for the last of the 3.0 Autos
Seems decent I wasn’t going for a 2.4 from a 3.0
I wasn’t spending 28k on a 2.8 for what we end up doing to them

Have you considered the Isuzu DMax? Shorter waiting lists and the power and torque is now equivalent to the 2.8 Hilux. Coming now with 200hp and 445Nm.
Have one here and very happy with it (to go back in for the power upgrade though - factory done so doesn't affect warranty). I'm not fussed on the lane departure system, but dealer said he can disable it if I want.
