We have a straw rake, but would like a little bit more aggression but only at a depth of 2-3cm to aid germination of volunteers. Currently looking at the Vaderstad Carrier with Cross Cutter discs. Any other suggestions?? Thank you in advance.

Just run a vaderstad drill over it. Nothing gets the crap growing better than driving a drill into the field.

Any of the above will to the job. A Carrier type disc has the press to help limit the depth.

Just watched a couple of Mzuri rezult videos and they appear to lift it at the ends
This could be a problem if you are dragging a mat of straw as it will leave heaps on the headlands

Remember you need something that presses what been loosened down for the best chit - seed to soil contact. Straw rakes for me are totally pointless machines. You'd be far better off with a very old rapid drill and lift the rear harrow up clear then use it as if you were drilling with it. They are an excellent machine and £10,000 will get you one.

I've used a power harrow in the past ( just because it's what we have sat around), set very shallow and a fast foward speed ,
Worked ok

Power harrows are fine too, but will smear badly if used when too wet.

A straw rake is just that - for raking straw. They will break the top half inch up each pass but that’s about it. It’s better than nothing but for the best chit of weeds and volunteers consolidation is required IMO.

That was my concern too. The idea of a combination of rake and discs is sound but my old Clayton rake did drop a bit of straw on the headland turns even though it wasn’t lifted on the ends.

Till so. Rake and roll. , looks quite good . But better just stick top down in . And when it greens up , over it again . Years back they dragged stubbles a couple times.to green up Then ploughed it , Who was wrong or right

I use a Proforge Inverta, seems to do the trick at quarter the price of a Carrier, did think to roll after but left it and it has done a grand job.

It is, does a real nice job working shallow, but yikes, it's it expensive.
