our front loader one (4550) cracked the vertical mounting frame. took them off and got them plated and welded at local blacksmith. Those old fords used to crack in the same places I know this as we had lots of them in the 70s and 80s on land drainage.
The base of boom where I’m lead to believe she’s cracked is a cast piece welded to the main boom.
Proper prep would be to clean it and prep it by V out with grinder then pre heat the cast with gas before welding.
Preferably in a workshop.
Yes very common to crack the frame not seen one that hasn’t been welded or platedour front loader one (4550) cracked the vertical mounting frame. took them off and got them plated and welded at local blacksmith.
Are you referring to my welding??Wouldn’t like the thought of anyone being near a half assed repair anyhow.
Are you referring to my welding??
the digger arm would have broken pushing in piles if I did half assed weldingNot necessarily. Any half assed welding
Do you push your bosses piles in often?the digger arm would have broken pushing in piles if I did half assed welding
There are some dickheads here I remember a jet flying slowly directly over after I had been welding outside several years ago
By the way I have put some rods in a bucket of water ready for tomorrow
Putting welding rods in water then turning up power to gouge was told to me by someone who learnt welding when he did national serviceWas you looking in the mirror when you wrote

Was you looking in the mirror when you wrote that?
Can you elaborate on that technique please?By the way I intend making trailer chassis at future date and that will be welded vertical and overhead as that's the only way of doing it
You can weld anything in the 2G position if you've a big enough craneBy the way I intend making trailer chassis at future date and that will be welded vertical and overhead as that's the only way of doing it
Get a telehandler and roll it over, always flat thenBy the way I intend making trailer chassis at future date and that will be welded vertical and overhead as that's the only way of doing it
Never do always done my own welding and I am Qualified plus I used to teach welding at the college in Newtown. What started as genuine thread is getting silly, just shows the intelligence of some on this site
I am sure @Kevtherev has had to do some on site welding or does he get professional welders in
