Cefetra/Wessex, Openfield via Cannington, Barts and United Oilseeds . We have done some sales to a local Dairy farm, but he needs the whole RT guff to satisfy his buyer.

We also do some wheat sales to local shoots, and some ex farm bagged wheat to local chicken owners, its very profitable but I wont sell 300t like that!

the weighbridge charge is in reality just a deduction , the difficulty is most if not all places wont accept any weights other than across their own weighbridge and yet these weighbridges are in the main not public ( albeit tested )which begs the question why wont they accept in and out over public weighbridge.
The reasons are simply trust ,they dont trust the haulier they dont trust the farmer and yet we are expected to trust them ,there is nothing to stop you weighing in and out at your nearest (if you are lucky enough to have one) public weighbridge and occasionally we do /have done and I recommend the practice ,if nothing else for peace of mind

Has always been Frontier and that was my bite as not sold to anyone else, but this year it’s going to change, had enough of them, loyalty isn’t rewarded so I’m not sticking around
My old man was guilty of only selling to the same merchant and had done for years. As I became more involved in the business I got him to call a couple of others for a prices comparison before committing to a sale. He was quite surprised/shocked by the price differences and we’re not talking a few pence a ton!
As you say loyalty is not rewarded and if anything, any loyalty in agriculture is taken for granted. That goes for everything from inputs, machinery, insurance and then again in our produce sales. It’s just so frustrating that we’re bottom of the food chain, literally!

I sell a little to Frontier who will only buy if our wheat is RT and yet they will happily flood our little island with boatloads of imported wheat,OSR,Soya etc etc which is not assured. What a crazy situation.

Cofco aren’t doing much? Not surprising though- after a quite a few years dealing with them I had a run bad experiences and closed our account! Cheers dh

Same here, if they were the only merchant left I still wouldn’t sell to them. ADM are getting dangerously close to being the same. Very happy with HAM although shifting large volumes takes time.

if it is through a coop then it is sold by them on behalf of the farmer through a member pool system with the coop acting as agent and not owning the grain in principle

Not necessarily.

Not all coop stores do their members' marketing. We do no buying/selling/trading/marketing of our members' grain and there are no specific 'Members' Pools' with our four merchants.

Our members can choose short/long pools or spot with our four merchants and the store doesn't get involved.
