Indeed , so why are you .
stakes are low when your drilling seed out the heap with no till fuel use
Don’t forget you’ll have to pay the royalties on that seed though, whether it grows or rots, then another lot on whatever you may need to redrill with after, as clarified in another thread.....
3-4 weeks to emerge, stuff locally that has been drilled has come through or just coming through not being bothered by crows. It's dry enough here to go so I'm going, it has two chances.Thinking the same here, just about dried up to have a go. Would probably get massacred by crows. For once I wish it would rain so the decision would be made for me. Hoping to get a spell at the end of Jan, sowing now is just guaranteeing 2 months of minimal growth and maximum potential pest damage.
Stuff we drilled in October took 5 weeks to emerge. If it does't come right in Jan/Feb have always got the fall back option of Maize.3-4 weeks to emerge, stuff locally that has been drilled has come through or just coming through not being bothered by crows. I dont want maize, dont care how good it is.Stuff we drilled in October took 5 weeks to emerge. If it does't come right in Jan/Feb have always got the fall back option of Maize.
Fair enough. Maize on the right land doest make a mess. As the ploughing photos above at @silverfox show.I dont want maize, dont care how good it is.
If you can go, you must go, if it stays averagely wet it will be no better before March April.
Turning some more over today. Good old fashioned winter ploughing and let the weather work it. No point trying to drill this now. Hopefully it’ll look different in March .
I’ve ordered spring barley with the proviso that I can have some w wheat instead, if it dries up feb/March .Out of interest what are you planning to drill... March obviously too late for the ww seed in the shed and spring wheat appears to be as rare as rocking horse poo... I'm looking at <10% ww (which may still fail), about 40% Spring beans and 50% fallow Well at least I wont have much of a tax bill in Jan 2021....
A lot of big farmers Norfolk way would drill ww up to Christmas and then switch to spring barley in the new year.
Probably finish wheat sooner and start barley laterWhat about small ones?
You want to look at my stubbles........ It's so depressing I havent looked at them since they cut it, be lucky to even get it ploughing this Spring, suspect it will be Aug before it will dry out enough to rectify the damage. Never againFair enough. Maize on the right land doest make a mess. As the ploughing photos above at @silverfox show.
