So I am part of a smallish Family Farm all arable, I have an interest in another business which keeps me amused at times but what on earth do people do all winter? It’s driving me insane

I always think winters pass too fast nowadays!!

Maintenance ( machinery and property) a building project, biomass business, loading grain, occasional field work ( drilling, spraying, p+k, hedgecutting) field walking, training, meetings, shoot days, planning new projects, getting files up together for the upcoming season ( NVZ, accs, staff training, h+s, budgets )

And then a rep will ring up and say "much on at the moment?? Must be a quiet time of the year for you?? "

If only!!

Be glad your winters are not as long as they are here. Do run out of things to do as well and get board at times too. There are things like book work, seed cleaning, grain hauling, machinery maintenance, and farm meetings to do but they do not keep me busy full time. My shed is not heated so no machinery maintenance when it is -40 out there. Searching for some good used farm equipment as well but farm auctions do not start till late march around this part of the world. We do try to go south for a week during the winter as well but for the most part winter here is useless and you might as well hibernate like the bears do. Sheep would get eaten by coyotes around here so would not be a bother after a while.

I’ve been pretty bored stiff since I finished drilling in November.cut all hedges but eventually had to stop due to mess made on margins.got some fencing to do after person who had cattle here left and done no repairs but low laying meadows are far too wet to carry machines.had a few days out and done lots of reading and several days out in my digger too but building sites are like a quagmire in places too.boos decided she wants her garden altered so got about 1/4 acre of trees and blackthorn and brambles to clear so that will keep me amused for a day or two.doe show next week so that will be another day then back to sitework end of week.45mm here for jan
