Should have sent those kids home with a leek each!
Tell 'em to make some soup.
The shed on the left of the picture is open fronted, and we have a table and honesty box for all kinds of produce, from veg to cakes etc. The leeks sell well. Don’t make a fortune from it, but it’s developing, and a great way to engage in conversation with the passing public.

I reckon it would work in a lot of villages, most people are lazy
Let them have a run around a (near to village) 1/2 acre plot for up to an hour for a tenner
Yep they would pay that
Look how many cannot wash their cars anymore ( too busy sodding about on their iPhone) and pay a Polish hand wash a tenner to do it (when they could do it themselves in 30 mins)
Too lazy and idle, are most townie villagers (lots in ours pay people to cut their lawns too)

Gracious JB sorry that I offend your sensibilities. I fit into those categories.

Lets have a look at a few of your farmer type prejudices ( I tease, it is a Saturday morning peruse of TFF, so be gentle with a caustic reply). D you struggle with the concept of economic activity? A service economy? Dog walking, lawn cutting, car washing - yes I appreciate these folk are not making or mining anything - horror! A service economy.

Topic - walking dogs. well here in my village there are or now more like were two dog walkers who make a living out of providing this pet service. Their clients are a mix of London / business commuters and older retired less mobile folk (not all wealthy) who want their companion dogs exercised properly. I know that they subsidise one with the other (leave you to work out which way). Their business model has been disrupted badly by Covid as these London commuters work from home and now enjoy walking there dogs during the day.

Have been discussing recently with two farmers setting up a secure dog walking field. Securely fenced. There are a few about. People that a concerned about there dog being attacked. And of course some quite expensive pooches these days. A business opportunity - but do not want to many farmers to join as anticipate rather than high end facilities a race to the bottom with undercutting with minimal facilities provided. As ever is thus.

Car wash - I wash my own car as I am to bloody mean t pay a Pole to wash it. And before the rise of the hand wash joint I also spurned the Car Wash units as I thought them environmentally wrong. But if folk want to pay someone to wash their car, so be it. It is call economic activity.

Anyway good thread to have a dip into.

Best wishes,,

Honesty 'shops' are great. We opened ours 4 yrs ago and it just ticked over. This year (2020) it saved our ice cream diversification and has contributed significantly to the bottom line of our overall business.
What is really good is that a local culture is growing that buying your food local doesn't have to be expensive, but just good and fair value. Within a 10 mile radius of us, there are now at least 8 honesty shops.

Apropos to nothing but I once came across a young lady having a pee on a summit in the Carneddau

Fresh air is good for the soul
when i was a schoolboy(in the dark ages) i was sent on a 2mile run for gym. i was running along a foot path when i came upon (maybe should rephrase that bit ) a schoolgirl having a pee. never saw anyone stop the flow and pull up pants so fast.

You miserable, miserable people.
Any idea what the last 9 months has been like for the 99% of the population that live in more crowded conditions than we do ?
Everyone on here loves to moan about folks flying abroad and how much more damage that does than cows, then when they stay here you still moan. Where, exactly, do you want them to go for their r and r ?
They do carry money you know. Sell them stuff.
Oh champion so if I go and buy a car off say Nissan I can trapse all over their Sunderland plant, cut the locks on the gates, damage their production line, let my collie poo all over and they can't say a thing to me as they sold me a car.

I was responding to criticism of the campaign. The campaign isn't encouraging anyone to smash locks or damage property, it is encouraging people to go for a walk in the countryside.
A good chunk of ELMS money is going to be for 'public engagement'. If we are clever we can get our hands on that cash for schemes that address the concerns you raise. If we just say "not welcome here, stay at home" then we will get whatever is foisted on us.
