With a strong £ politicians can promise cheap food - which to the UK ag. industry means cheaper imports...
Since the Brexit vote the £ has weakened a fair bit. Imports are no longer as cheap as they were and brings our produce in line. How Westminster gets round this, will be interesting to see. As far as I can see, no matter how it's cut - food prices are going up*
* doesn't mean we will get any more for what we sell, but the price in the shops will increase.
What other WTO signatory could protest that this would be fair?
We have seen how these things have happened before and taken years to sort out. Usually against the EU, who have had to rescind and refund those upon which they unfairly tariffed!
