My sympathies go out to those having a rough time of it, we seem to have escaped the worse here, the wind was starting to dry the yard at the end of milking this morning and we’ve only had light rain/drizzle since.
Indeed despite it being a wetter winter than usual, in reality it’s beem what we needed to restore the ground water after summer 2018. I appreciate not all will feel the same, it’s amazing the variation in weather we get across a relatively small country.

we aren’t that far from you and have had rain all night, followed by very heavy showers all day. lots of standing water on fields with it flowing onto the roads.
Ludlow has had it bad with one of the dairy farms where my son is, flooded badly with the sheds and parlour full of water. Sent me a video, but I don’t know how to upload it.

The weather has been improving all day and I was feeling very lucky at the few minor repairs that were required.
Then got hit by a horrendous squall for 20 minutes which seemed to completely fudge everything and I nearly got hit by a roofing sheet.
Watch out for these sudden changes if your tempted to repair ort.

Yeah, for a lot of this afternoon it was quite nice. As it's got dark though it's picking up the wind and rain again.

Was told once that large forests attract more rain clouds, although how that works i have no idea. Kielder Dam has regulated the flow on the North Tyne massively. In dry summers the flow used to get very low indeed. The highest i have ever seen it in my life was August Bank holiday monday 1976,before Kielder was finished. The South Tyne catchment is what tips the balance at Hexham.
Forest give off clouds of bacteria, into the atmosphere above them. These bacteria act as a catalyst for the rain droplets to coalesce around and then fall as rain (remember the soviets "seeding" clouds to start rain)

ive ridden a few old girls and it was a pleasure but none of them were grey and knackered

Something tells me the FIL never reconditioned the fuel pump, as it did actually go quite well for its age albeit with a bit of hunting.
So once its back, will be getting a bit of tlc, as it will ge useful around the farm for topping etc as it will be light vs the other equipment. Bit of a mod to do on the rear linkage to stop the arms dropping...

As for the other parts - couldn't possibly comment ?

Plant trees now, hope everyone with flooded houses is happy to put up with it happening for another 20 years until the super absorbent forests start working?
Have they actually researched this, because there's a big difference between how much water ancient forest will absorb compared to tiny saplings
Gabe Brown's book on regenerative agriculture, no need to plant trees, just farm in a different way and it greatly improves water infiltration rate

Very little rain here throughout the day, it was bright and sunny this afternoon.
I bought some barley straw in the swath close to you back in the summer, I reckon that ground was wetter then than most of mine is now.

Don’t know what happened there, I was quoting @silverfox earlier post, allthough that did seem to get mixed up with a previous post of mine.

Nowhere near as bad round here as some parts, Water from up in the village is beating the ditch and is currently pouring threw our yard, its cleaning the concrete of nicely, lowest ground has some lakes on it but nothing too serious. Unbelievably, no wind damage, but we lost power around 6pm last night, so the generator had to have an outing in order to finish milking and have a cuppa tea :D

Have you got one of these new fangled diesel tanks yet, one with a pump on?
It’s allways funny how all the tractors are low on diesel whenever there’s a power cut.☹️
