Mole Catchers

Thought if they dead they dead ...... so the story about moles having heart attacks and dieing at the slightest of shock must be bull poop then 🤔,

So how do they need setting to get a better kill ?
Do you mean they need to be lighter set so go off earlier?
You need to be aiming to catch the mole, from behind the front feet, roughly ,rib cage , chest cavity, area, your half barrel , or Duffus traps,...can be fettled with,.....to help achieve this,.....maybe pay a Pro,...😄,....cause I've NOT come across any SKINT farmers yet ! ,...in my 30 yrs moling lol

Yes, if you set them lighter (by altering the trigger hook) they will go off sooner. Of course it will also mean a small amount of soil pushed along will trigger them too soon sometimes.
I always seem to think they went off to easily if light and getting lots of empty traps so thought give em a good chance of getting through the hoops if heavier set ,

Your on the right track,...but you really need more adjustments than this ? ,....all these so called "Professionals" on these forums, telling their potential customers how to do the job properly !!....WTF, is that mentality all about ?

Never looked at the job so scientifically before , I was just chuffed to get oat in the trap!

The smiley was more to do with the point people would say a mole dies at anything that scares it or upsets its business so that must be some BS then ??
Well if your duffus is gonna strike the mole further down towards the abdomen,...its gonna suffer a bit longer, definitely, (you need to target the vital organs, area )....so to me ,....as a Pro,....am gonna try & execute as swift a demise, as I can for old moley,.....

One more time !!!!! Is it BS or not in your opinion moles die from shock or struggle on to the there last breath when trapped 🤔

There is a few if us that exist!
Fair enough,.....(yous deserve any profit, yous manage through farming, don't get me wrong,...some public, still think its an idyllic lifestyle,..etc,....but there's long hours & some hard work behind all that, carried out in all weather's, etc,..... as yous ALL, well know !)

I believe they can die from shock, when hit in the right place , & importantly from the right trap type , with enough spring power,....but CERTAINLY not where yours were caught in that photo, for example,.......I'm no expert in how a mole expires in a trap, certainly,......but there is another intelligent mole catcher,.....who has studied this, & published his findings,........& the heavy duty, Eliza tynsley style, old scissor traps , & indeed the wee fenn scissor, DONT have strong enough springs for a possible humane kill, in my opinion

@Ukjay where abouts in Monmouthshire? Are you a long way from Abergavenny/Llanfinhangel Crucorney? My mole man may be able to help you out.

Hi Mog

I purchased the equipment and have been catching them myself - so I am no longer looking for a mole catcher now, but thank you anyway.

I don't think there is anyone on here that is telling any potential customer how to do the job. We are all just amateurs, sharing tips and experiences in the hope that we can all do it better, saving paying a 'professional'. ;)
