Gatepost ideas

Do the job properly:

Caw the old post out using the side of a machine that's too wide

Tie an old pallet, preferably not too rotten, onto what's left of the end of the fence

Swing the existing gate round and, viola, wider gateway at no cost, no more than 10 minutes work, and easily accomplished with one arm

Choose the right old pallet, and that wider gateway will last years 👍
I only have one with the pallet extension. Elsewhere when posts and gates rotted away we splashed out on 2ft wider gates and fresh bailer twine (y)

All Hydraulic Earth auger drilled holes for gate posts here now, tungsten auger points will chew away and move stones up out of the way . far better than a digger saves half as much concrete . precise and tidy.
used to hire an auger on a mini digger but now made/adapted our on tractor linkage one of the best things i've ever put together i think.

Some people seem to make mountains out of mole hills or have no idea, World needs more skilled intelligent practical people for the down to earth jobs not clever talking /sounding do da's (y):sneaky:

Well, I was rather assuming that @Overby would either wait until he was healed or get someone else to do the work.
Realistically with a broken arm you are reduced to a spectator/ tea provider role!
those hand held engine driven augers arent worth a sh!t .
better to use a bar iron and nice spade not quite so glamorous though i guess and people dont like to steady away at manual work these days do they , seems like they go to the gym instead :D

wacking /kango type drill with a chisel bit or long tungsten tipped bit on will loosen as well, used on a genny clean out by hand.

this is a usefull tool for its cost
Titan sds max drill new ones not dear

can get metre long drill bits for them. modern stuff is so  and easy to use........youngsters dont know their born .......

I use an Oxdale post hole borer on the back of my old IH250. It worked remarkably well putting in 14 concrete posts along Mrs Fred's dad's lane in urban Poole the other day. Caused lots of interest among the townies.
Another idea I use at home is to pull an old Acrobat out of the hedge and park it in the gate hole. It looks quite ornate and can be easily opened with a small tractor.

This.
I've got an Erbaur 9kg (I think) from Screwfix, and it will punch through a 6" slab just fine, you can then trim up the hole to the desired shape and size.

got a 110v one for the genny , got to be man of him tho, not let go else will have a broken wrist and leg as well :ROFLMAO:
use it for drilling pilot holes for clipex in hard shale ground.

If it’s a hard block of concrete then a rock spike is brilliant at chipping through.

If it’s compacted hardcore then get a length of train rail and drive it through with the biggest f**k off post knocker you can find. Rail makes very sturdy gate posts. Don’t hit the new rail post with anything…..the post will win.

What siz of gate you looking to hang. We have no issue with a 12 foot of a 8ft wooden stainer, 10ft electric pole is better takes time but we have pour own post driver and it is quick and handy.
