SFI unravelling as the policy makers realise food might be in short supply and as of yesterday (25th March) not taking land out of food production is suddenly important to the government.
Is it important to the population as a whole to have home grown food production subsidised?
What should SFI...
Any issues with feeding this in the parlour? Just going to place my first load and don't want a disaster.

Feed rep has warned about possibly not being that appealing to cows (bitter) but doesn't think it should be too bad. Plus I know people on here that feed it almost...
Going off the back of the recent news from Defra and reading the current thread about it it would be interesting to see exactly how much land people where actually considering taking out of production.
Thers a lot complaining about not being able to enter more than 25% into the 6 options that...
Rolled 80ac of wheat today, would have liked to leave it another few days dry but forecast is rain for a week now and then by the time it drys it will want a spray probably and end up being too late to roll. Had to roll for stones as we have a lot and header runs on the floor. Do a lot of...
Anyone managed to grab bits? I grabbed some real light bits but any clay and it’s a wet shitty mess. Not sure when to throw the towel in and go for sfi

I’ve a number of last years ewe lambs running , the plan was to sell half as shearling breeding ewes as they are decent sorts.
But the price of hogs at the moment means they need to be £250 plus as shearlings……

I farm heavy silty clay with flints. No ditches, no land drains. Good strong wheat land, if unforgiving.
I've been trying to grow cover crops on and off for the last 9 yrs. With one exception, they have all been disastrous.
Summer cover crops in place of a spring crop, on the other hand, can...

I would like to put Beet in after carrots but not sure if there can be problems?
Does anyone know of disease problems or pest problems that stops beet and carrots being grown too close together?
Thanks
So I thought I'd post my adventures in pimping my Kuhn maize drill for the upcoming season.
I use the drill for maize, pumpkins and OSR, where I run ahead with a subsoiler and follow down the lines with the drill. Sort of like strip-till but not quite. I'd like to use it in a truly no-till...
Got a 20 acre field of WW destined for the whole crop pit that is a write off.
We can not grow a reliable crop of maize. (Tried for 3 years. got 1 good crop & 2 average ones )
Not sure ground is going to dry soon enough to get spring barley in. Still an option
Any other options to consider...
Why not? We all seem to have them and with all the current new "farmer subsidies" such as SFI in England & SFS in Wales, I have come up with a doozy that may well apply to all you boys piling in to SFI herbal leys and flower meadows etc
And it is this:
Once you have signed off & planted your...
