You should educate that muppet officer on this What a plank. They quote the STF (standard tension force) as the capacity of the strap and they aren't not the only ones who do this. The people who do this fundamentally don't understand the mechanics involved. Comes under the heading of a little bit of information is dangerous
Yes you may only be able to apply 350KG of tension to the strap with the ratchet but by doing this you create a taut system where by in order for the item you are securing to move its not 350KGs it has to overcome its the full capacity of the strap.
The 350kgs of tension you apply with the ratchet is a pre-load with the aim of preventing the strap ever going slack and then getting a shock load when the loading goes from loose too tight should your cargo move.
Perhaps the older softer rope was poly/sisal mix like hay twine is and the new ones are just poly ?Still like rope ,and can do a few different hitchs
but tell me where to find that nice red and blue rope that lasted ages and was not stiff as hell and slippy like thois new blue crap ,
I thought they made lampsAnyways arent tilly all about having a safe trailer, the load should be none of their business

What if like mine they don't go on the roadWhy can I see this becoming yet another red tractor standard!!!!! All trailers used for farm work must have a current Tilly pass certificate, I can hear it now!!!
You don't think a silly thing like that will make any difference to the RT Gestapo do you!!!!What if like mine they don't go on the road
Speak to your local HGV place. They will be able to inspect and brake test for you.ive always had our trailers done by them as piece of mind but i think the time has come to find an alternative. Any recomendations????????
hate when companies start to go over the top id rather the money went somewhere else just to slow their ambitions down a bit. I can understand the whole story behind it and testing is a good thing dont get me wrong, but when people start to go over the top i just think my money would be better spend elsewhere as if they get too much behind them they will become a standard.
The just seam to be showing the wrong attitude to become the industry leaders in this area
im no expert on load securing ropes type but this is good stuff weve got a bigger diameter one for pulling trees over, like him so far, its not a stretchy one and dont mind water at all, will chafe a bit if yer careless, but thats like most rope got to be carefull in that way.Perhaps the older softer rope was poly/sisal mix like hay twine is and the new ones are just poly ?
who is that withIt costs us £100/trailer including any remedial work done, they get tested before harvest in June with the tractor it will be used with (Drawbar height makes a massive difference to braking efficiency and load compensator valves). Same place does any repairs, cost in minimal and they have access to parts/knowledge that we don't.
A large farming company in Yorkshire do the same with all their trailers. Pop into an HGV garage in Driffield ready for the main season. Builds up a portfolio of testing and maintenance. It costs us £100/trailer including any remedial work done, they get tested before harvest in June with the tractor it will be used with (Drawbar height makes a massive difference to braking efficiency and load compensator valves). Same place does any repairs, cost in minimal and they have access to parts/knowledge that we don't.
Never mind strap strength etc in the video, surely the first cockup he’s made is putting the straps onto the rope hooks.
Apparently it was a mock up with deliberate faults at a young farmers job.Never mind strap strength etc in the video, surely the first cockup he’s made is putting the straps onto the rope hooks.
Nope, rope hooks are just that. Rope hooksI thought strap on rope hooks is ok as long as it’s properly designed triangle ends, not the strap hooks.
Can’t really see what they have there.
I think he meant the straps had cuts and were worn. This is a good site . Said copper was wrong https://assets.highwaysengland.co.uk/Commercial+Vehicles/Ratchet+Strap+Leaflet.pdfWhy was he saying the straps were ‘ok’ and he had ‘seen worse’. They looked like perfectly decent straps to me
