Look at the number of cows and bulling heifers going through the cast ring every week, and it doesn't take a genius to work out that there is going to be a BIG supply issue in two years time

But it's nice that the cattle trade is nearly enough to pay for finishing pellets to feed poor priced lambs

One bull entered in Northallerton today I have it at £960 and thought it looked a good price, 400kg on the nail off the trailer. I feel a little better now

It’s the buyers from south of the border that’s pushing up the trade of Scottish store cattle

Never seen trade like it today. Numerous cattle 350-360ppk taking them well over £1000 over their weight. A lot of heavies making more than they’d be hanging up in Scottish abbatoirs. Many heading south.

I know yesterday’s sale was fantastic trade and shows confidence in cattle, and hopefully folk won’t knee jerk reaction sell cows
However my line shows an 11% increase per head on the corresponding sale last year. In reality it’s not enough

Not long ago cattle were £100 over their weight. Spoke to a consultant today who told me his team are busy doing bank business plans for buyers who are needing to increase their borrowings to allow them to buy these cattle at the inflated prices. Hope it doesn’t all end up a mess.
