I think you’re wrong on that, as do others up thread but I ain’t no expert on the matterI believe a pig is the only farm animal that you are legally allowed to kill and butcher at home.

That’s ok nor am I an expert. Just something that I recalled at the back of my mind. I have only read the first page so guess I missed the informed advice further on!I think you’re wrong on that, as do others up thread but I ain’t no expert on the matter
As I understand it home killed is only for consumption by Immediate family, it can’t be sold, given away or fed to guests. That’s ok nor am I an expert. Just something that I recalled at the back of my mind. I have only read the first page so guess I missed the informed advice further on!
Someone’s been busy if it’s immediate familyOf course in some parts of the country a family can extend to several hundred people.
Yeah, an artic full of live pigs and let them go in London.
That was what I was getting at. You can kill and butcher a pig for the immediate family but beef and lamb is only for personal consumption, I.e. just you personally no immediate family. As I understand it home killed is only for consumption by Immediate family, it can’t be sold, given away or fed to guests.
I wouldn’t like to make a definitive statement on that, I think it’s immediate family but could very well be wrong. That was what I was getting at. Good friend of mine dropped a dead horse outside the Labour Party conference in Brighton , he got arrested and interviewed let go with no charge , he said it was the cheapest way to dispose of dead stockif I was a pig farmer right now I would be bloody tempted to do that
let them have to do the killing, in the public eye
No need to enlighten me now, I live in sunny France and things seem quite different here depending on who you knowI wouldn’t like to make a definitive statement on that, I think it’s immediate family but could very well be wrong.
No doubt someone on here will be able to enlighten us.
This would be my concern.I think its a good idea, as others have said you need a CPH and to be a registered pig keeper and bringing them onto your holding creates a standstill for sheep and cattle aswell I believe.
Thing is shooting a pig in the brain with a 22 isn't as straight forward as people think, I've seen it go wrong, it's even harder to get it the second time around!
Scudding them to remove the hair isn't that bad IMO. Plenty of boiling water and some big knives.
But only direct family can legally eat your homekill

No, perfectly to do sheep or cattle for the consumption of immediate household. I do about three sheep a year for us. Would do more if time allowed. Beef is a big step up, mind.I believe a pig is the only farm animal that you are legally allowed to kill and butcher at home.
Los Caracoles in Las Ramblas BarcelonaWhen we had a few pigs , we had a very good trade for suckling pig . The local factory had a skilled slaughtereman who didn't split the belly , he used to do it like drawing a chicken . They used to land up suitably decorated as the centre piece on quite a few banquet tables . Suckling pig is also on many restaurant menus in Spain as usual daily fare . "Lechona asados" (I think .) Es -Molinar in Palma had them all the time , and very good they were too , That is until they started selling frozen pork , and probably kept it too long in the freezer as it tasted quite rancid . I wonder if that may be a solution to today's problems -- every little helps !
Downing street has a good fence round it tooif I was a pig farmer right now I would be bloody tempted to do that

Ooh, we had suckling pig on a two-centre holiday in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona). Think the restaurant was in Madrid, they did an amazing Russian salad too (tatties etc.). My wife got a bit fed up of me whispering down the piglet's ear thoughLos Caracoles in Las Ramblas Barcelona
