I usually drain around 40L in this way then drain the rest from underneath,I wudnt keep pumping running it dry though.Hello, I'm about to change the back end oil on a mf 6265, would it do any harm to empty the old stuff by pumping it out until empty via a spool valve?
I do it that way but stop the instant it splutters and drain the rest. You won't get it all through the spool and the stuff left in the bottom is the stuff you really want rid of.Hello, I'm about to change the back end oil on a mf 6265, would it do any harm to empty the old stuff by pumping it out until empty via a spool valve?
Yes, but the last drum of swarfy dregs will have just gone right through the hydraulic system... the oil will be at its worst condition just as the pump runs dry. Better to put the whole lot out of the drain plug and use the volume to clean any crap out.Its a hell of a lot easier and cleaner to pump into drums than dick around with funnels and the like underneath a grubby tractor

Each to their own, how many microns is the suction strainer and how many microns is the main filter? For the sake of it it's just not worth dragging up the crap. 100kg mineral tubs are great for it out of the bottom if you don't want to use a funnel.Theres a suction strainer for a reason. The pump cant empty the back end as it doesnt suck from the bottom
Other than your example being a prime form of pump failure?Regardless of where you're pumping the fluid to it still wont pick up the sh1t at the bottom of the case, so doesnt matter on the filtration level. Does using the hydraulic system in its normal fashion pick up said sh1t? Im going to assume you think if you hook up a large enough cylinder to a spool and empty the back end into it that you think the pump is going to actually pick up the sediment. No one would design a hydraulic system that dumb.

You asked the question!!! I'll drop my oil out of the designated drain plug that the manufacturer put in to... err, drain the oil out of, you honk it out of the spools because you can't hold a funnel and then accept its not empty.... so you then need to get a funnel, take the drain plug out to get the rest of it out.If you havent got enough wit to stop pumping when dry then I suggest you put the spanners down.
And its a damn sight easier on a massey 64 series to take what you can out through a hose in a spool first than to drain it all out the plug when said plug is in behind the hitch frame and splashes off it all over the place with the weight of 60+ litres pushing it outYou asked the question!!! This, if the back end drain was as accessible as the engine sump plug i would just drain it all to start with but as above its buried above the pick up hitch where you need an extension welded to the side of a socket to access it. Pumping so much of the oil into drums is no different that tipping a trailer so cant see the issue myselfAnd its a damn sight easier on a massey 64 series to take what you can out through a hose in a spool first than to drain it all out the plug when said plug is in behind the hitch frame and splashes off it all over the place with the weight of 60+ litres pushing it out
Not my question...

Hydraulic system, not hitchDid you quote "no one would design a hydraulic system that dumb"?
Him or me?! Oil pumped out is usually filtered, but I wouldn't go as far as reusing it like that...Oil pumped out will be fit to go back in. Only need to replace the dregs through the bung
Big saving to be made there.
Hark! Is that the sound of someone hyperventilating?
