I am pleased to report tonight that our field of beet looks like it will finally put in an appearance :) my big problem now are weeds which we are ready to spray … we even had Rolly our mate in with his nasher on row crops and sprayer in ready to go but we had yet another shower so that stopped that :banghead:

I feel your pain, although I did manage to get on the beet last week. Sprayer all ready to go on the Spring Barley, seeing as today looked like being the best spraying day in the forecast. BLW looking very healthy & enjoying the showers, and spray is still in the shed.:banghead:

Burn it off and put good old Swede in . Still time if your quick . But use a good old fashioned variety you can trust . Not a flash in the pan fly by night [emoji23]

Swede seed cancelled here as I find it too unreliable, especially in a dry time. 30kg of Massif maincrop turnip due to arrive today in it’s place. ? Ground all disced up to a lovely seedbed and will likely just broadcast on with a slug pelleter, roll and pray it doesn’t burn up again next week....

A Festulolium in a permanent pasture mix? Or have I read it wrong.
Nope, we had some off you a few of years ago, overseeded a tired pp ley and have repeated twice now to good effect, light dressing of 20/10/10 and we have had some tremendous crops of hay in July having been grazed up to early May. 3 years max before it reverts to clover, cocksfoot, prg and some other less productive grass species.

Calling something a permanent pasture mix is a bit naughty but I agree putting festulolium in long term mixes needs a word of caution- Lofa, for example, I have known to life 4 years fine, some of the Italian crosses however, do not.
Sorry, just to clarify, mine was not a bought pp mix, I just overseeded festulolium, diploid and tetraploid ryegrass into a long term ley. Haven't managed 4 years with Lofa, 3 great years fourth replaced by prg and other less productive grasses.

Wondering about doing a light overseed into our pp each autumn with something like perseus, just to maintain its presence in the sward as it seems to cope with our paddock grazing and max of one hay crop a year. We have now a lot of medium clovers appearing which should fix a bit of N for it to grow well. Any thoughts?

Hybrid rye will be harvested in about two weeks. Land away from the farm and near a busy main road, so not suitable for my regular tack man. Will fodder be in short enough supply to bother with westerwolds or a short term irg.

Nack is with any grass as soon as it will take feet graze it off quick . It will tiller like crazy then and weeds are gone out of way . That's why I have never liked undersowning and Autumn sowing, after management is as important as before management.
Autumn sowing is the best in my opinion . You can get a grazing with the tack sheep, and haven’t wasted a season .

My failed kale game strips are now being smothered in fat hen. Will leave it as fat hen makes a bit of cover and some seed to feed on later. Needn’t have bothered with the kale seed really. Good old fat hen. A tough old weed that powers through. Not like these expensive namby pamby mixes that fall over at the sight of a beetle.

Ceredigion will have a glut of fodder . Best growing conditions now I've seen in 10 years . Dad said if you see steam rising grass will grow like never before .well steam is rising .

You won't do that on our ground . We are carfull how we graze spring sown the following winter. If its wet for two long sheep can do a lot of harm . But that's our ground .no two farms the same
