Firearms Licensing

I know most Firearms Licensing departments across the country are in disarray at the moment but, has anyone had any joy in getting an application (not a renewal) processed this year? Mine has been in for just shy of 12 months now and can't get any sense as to how much longer I may have to wait.

Dad sent his off in March to be made co-termunis and has phoned twice since and they still haven't done it.

I've sent a few emails now and first they said end of July/early August. Now they just say they don't know. If I was being cynical, I might start to think this is just a jolly good excuse not to grant any more licenses for a while... if I was being cynical!!!! :sneaky:

Just spoken to my licensing dept (Northumbria) as my licences expire at the end of the month, had my renewal forms in 14weeks before they run out, chap on the phone was really helpful and said don't panic as my current licences will be extended until the end of the year and will get a letter in the post stating as such

Sent my renewal in about a fortnight ago, had a phone a week later, "we don't come out becaus of this covid, so just a few questions". A right tidy lad, did it all through welsh, got the s/n wrong on one of the shotguns so asked me to double check and txt it through to him, which I did and had a thumbs up back. It's all been sorted and will be sent out in due course. I know it's a renewal, but really can't fault Dyfed Powys every time I've delt with them, might help, they've got more registered guns than any other police force in the country.

To be fair, I've never had an issue with the D&C Constabulary firearms mob in the past. They've always been pretty helpful and efficient but, I foolishly surrendered my licenses nearly 6 years ago (emigrated and was "never coming back") and now it seems to be a nightmare to get them back again! You live and learn I suppose!

Lad local to me had his renewal conducted via video as they weren't visiting homes. I am sure an in person visit will be necessary for a grant so you may be waiting a while longer unfortunately.

I fear you may be right. They will want to come and lean against my gun cabinet at the very least I would think.

Was it a renewal and grant for coterminous?

He needs to kick up hell. The renewal part must have lapsed by now? If it has then he is holding his firearms/shotgun illegally. "Certificate being in for renewal" is not a good excuse. I strongly urge you to phone BASC for some assistance to push the police along (if you are a member)

Get them onto it for him.

If anything were to happen, he is viewed to be holding the guns without license currently - even though it's the Police's fault and the renewal is 'in process' he could be prosecuted.

It boils my pee some forces are so lax with renewals

OK will do. I do wonder about the licensing dept. My wife and I both had an anschutz target rifle each and shared a cabinet. When we moved we sent our certificates in to change address. We got them back and never looked at them just put them away. Soon the wife gave up shooting and went to sell her rifle to a gun shop. When he looked at her certificate, it had my rifle serial number on it and so did my certificate! Hers had disappeared off the police system! No record of it at all, my brother owned it before her aswell!
Shows how weapons can get in the wrong hands
