Firearms Licensing

I know most Firearms Licensing departments across the country are in disarray at the moment but, has anyone had any joy in getting an application (not a renewal) processed this year? Mine has been in for just shy of 12 months now and can't get any sense as to how much longer I may have to wait.

My fac application has been with D&C since January, I’ve heard nowt. Kicking myself for giving it up a few years ago and having to start again. And got real issues with foxes, just fortunate to have a neighbour who’s a good shot.

OK will do. I do wonder about the licensing dept. My wife and I both had an anschutz target rifle each and shared a cabinet. When we moved we sent our certificates in to change address. We got them back and never looked at them just put them away. Soon the wife gave up shooting and went to sell her rifle to a gun shop. When he looked at her certificate, it had my rifle serial number on it and so did my certificate! Hers had disappeared off the police system! No record of it at all, my brother owned it before her aswell!
Shows how weapons can get in the wrong hands

Now why doesn't that surprise me? I could write a book -- and I have put a few chapters on here already. But I won't bore regulars any more. The very least the force needs to do is require police officers to pass a citizens' test to prove that they have an IQ above single figures, know how society functions, and where their wages come from. When my guns were returned to me after they'd been seized, I had been issued with the wrong paperwork, so I wasn't authorised to possess them at all!

Notts took about 6 months to process my renewal. They gave me an extension on the expiry date by a few months as they were running so far behind.

Notts have given up on new applications for this year 👎

The reason for increasing the fees substantially a few years ago was......

Home Office announces increase in firearms licensing fees
Increase will create a fairer and more effective system for forces, licence holders and the general public

Lancs FLO wouldn’t grant .17hmr for rabbit and .223 for fox. “You can shoot rabbits and foxes with .233”

What feckin use is a rabbit that’s been splatted with .223?

Appeal it to a more senior officer and say you NEED the .17hmr, stating your reasons, preferably through a solicitor. Tell them you'll take it to court if you can't get it. This is not a police state -- yet. They have to be able to justify their actions.

It’s sorted now, but it shows how clueless some FLO are about shooting. A number of certificate holders had similar issues with the same FLO.

My renewal of my SC took over a year with Dorset and went on for 9 months after the expiry. Eventually I got a call from PC Bob from Bodmin Police Station with the standard questions and the renewal was sent within a couple of weeks. Luckily, and probably why my renewal went to the bottom of the pile was that my guns were also registered to my wife so they automatically transferred to her. I did get a quick call just before expiry to say “give her the keys please!”

N Yorks Police have shown no interest in my request for a cabinet inspection since moving up here in July. We’re all legal, so I’m not pushing them just yet.

@CornishTone I recommend that you join BASC anyway, but this is just the kind of job that they excel in (y)

Tends to be the case that one of two FLO's are.... less than competent.

Mind, the best "inspection was of my wife, when a young PC rocked up ater a call 30 mins beforehand, and told my wife she was here to check for her renewal, but had no real idea what she was actually looking at in the cabinet! Bizarre.

Better now.

The real issue round here is getting the Dr Section completed. I am not allowed to submit the forms until I have the reply from the Dr --- waiting and waiting, and Licences run out on 18th Novemeber... Oh well...

Same as mine then, and the same kicking myself!

They've stopped responding to emails now so will start calling them!

My doctors surgery have a 'moral objection' to completing firearms licence applications questions. What about their moral obligation.
I think I will need to find and handsomely pay another doctor to look at my medical records and answer the police questions. PITA.
My Doctors are useless at the best of times.

Moral objection? How about a legal obligation? As above, get BASC onto this.
