What was reason for closure..?

Officially it was due to the lack of demand for the engines built there. However, as I understand it the same engines are built at several other plants world-wide that have no issues with brexit imports and exports. Since every single engine built there was exported, it made no sense to even risk having extra costs and export burdens imposed. Ford has shown zero commitment to the UK over a period of many years anyhow, so it should be no surprise when they leave completely and 100%, which looks very likely now that they have so little presence left. I think the Dagenham Diesel engine plant is the only one of substance left and we all know the prospects for diesel and therefore the prospects for Dagenham.
Oh yes, they have a 50% stake with Getrag in the Halewood transmission plant near Liverpool which is also on limited time due to the rise of automatic transmissions and electric cars, plus the dreaded [br]exit. This is basically on a site shared with JLR which make the Evoque, Discovery Sport and the Jaguar E-Pace. [Every second E-Pace is apparently built in Austria though, which means that at least 50 of them:eek:] This is a legacy from when Ford built the Escort at Halewood many moons ago.

Very bright bloke Jim Ratcliffe - self made man from humble roots. Have a lot of time for him.

See that he is a true Brexiter. Proclaims in 2016 how marvellous it would be. And now. Well fudges off to Monaco to miss paying UK tax and looks at buying a French car plant to build his new Grenadier truck.

True Brexiter along the lines of Rees Mogg et al. Hey ho there you go.

Lower than a territory that is purposely structured as a tax haven for the rich and for money laundering. Yes I can see the UK doing that. It's already half way there with the billions of dirty money being exposed in The City with every passing week.

Well there is a few on here reckon it is the way forward. Hey ho.

Its not just income tax for the mere mortal though. There's 20% VAT on most things apart from food and a few essentials. There's fuel tax. There's road duty on driving cars. There's a massive extra tax on buying new cars with the VAT added on top. All of this after paying income tax. Oh and insurance tax on insuring stuff. Tax on selling and buying property and Rates on living in it. National Insurance.

The list just goes on and on and on. I wouldn't be surprised if most ordinary people don't end up paying between 60 and 80% tax on their income and expenditure overall in one way or another.
