Goodbye Britannia!

What is most ironic is how these EU fans living abroad and waxing lyrical about how great the EU is and how Britannia is finished, seem to spend all their time on British fora probably because “ foreign” fora just don’t really cut it.
You’d think they’d be happy to leave us poor incorrigibles behind and soar ever upward with the great EU project. But no, it seems Britannia still has some sort of draw on them.

You know, I do give this some thought, and it is kind of ironic but imo based on human nature. You see, I think as humans we need/desire some amount of grief in our lives. So, the problem is, we move here for a trouble free, tranquil life but then when we get this life that ticks along in perfect harmony, we end up craving grief...
Stand up TFF👍

Do you really need that much grief though.

Well now, you see, I did actually live in England for over 53 years; I’m used to a lot of grief
I think every place in the world has a similar level.of grief, it's just when you move somewhere new it's a clean sheet, a new adventure and no baggage after a few years the sheet isnt as clean and the baggage starts building, my best mate moved to Ireland to leave a lot of agro behind here, thought from a few visits that cost of living and taxes were less, after he moved he just found that the Urish just tax in a different way, he was especially pee'd off when he was told he had to pay over three grand tax on the isuzu he imported and the 800 quid yearly road tax on it. I think a lot of people are pretty naive when they move country

No, I am sure and have been for some 30 years, that the high price of putting a roof over your head in England (rent or mortgage) causes a lot of tension, stress that then leads to just general angst

I have found that what is initially an exotic novelty abroad can soon turn into a tiresome irritation. I had a year working in Paris. It was enough to last me a lifetime.

Ah Paris. I do like the place but the romantic allure of the underpasses that stink of pee puts you off a bit. But there was an extremely pretty young lady who made the finest fried chicken baguette I have ever tasted.

Care in the community subcontracted to the Metro, some rough arse bandit playing “memory waltz” every morning on the way to work jammed in like sardines. Give me Lincolnshire any day.

Not sure if there is an international comparison of how long it takes to earn the money to pur a roof over your head , in the UK house prices for similar properties vary hugely , food prices are a good bit higher in France from my observation
