Killing peas

I’m planning 120 ha of large blue peas next year. With the demise of Reglone am I mad to think glyphosate will kill them? The attraction of Reglone was its ability to burn the foliage to a crisp in a few days. I’ve sprayed off some cover crop recently that had a few peas in the mix, everything is now dead apart from the peas which are still remarkably green .

Yes it will but use the good stuff or atleast ad in the wetters on the unbranded stuff.
Ive used both depending on how the crop was & the year.
Regloned them last harvest which kinda of worked but the hellish rain before they were done made it all a challenge.
Shame Reglones gone, be nowt left soon

What variety you going for? mine will be Daytona, wanted a newer one like LG Stallion but seed ni on impossible to source

first time pea grower last yr. used roundup. never liked reglone on linseed or beans or anything. heavens opened so didn't get to combine them for 3 weeks. lost a few. combined 120 acres in a day. wont hesitate about using roundup again. It does what it says on the tin. It kills stuff properly.

It does but you have to be more patient thats all.
Peas n Patience dont both work in sequence every year thats the trouble

You cut 120ac in one day
How many Combines to do that?
25ft header 400hp machine we just managed 20ac a day here, you rarely can start until lunchtime & then 5-6pm your about stopped
All coz of sunshine mainly

Look shorter right enuff, less yield possibly? just a real game of Luck no matter what variety you try your best to grow.

You are right, glyphosate wont kill peas unfortunately

Glypho will kill peas, you just have to spray them earlier.

Been using glypho in peas for more than 25 years, works every time.

Gozai and oil? I was planning on trying some on Lupins this harvest but couldn’t get any of it. I think it’s what I’ll use on Soya this year.

Possibly less yield bit I’ve cut enough flat peas to know that flat ones never yield.

Is it worth holding them up with a mustard companion crop? I used mustard to hold up vetch, the variety grew 6ft tall but would have been no higher than 3” without the mustard. A bit like peaola but without having to worry about the OSR component.

I had wondered the same, have you done this?

WE tried a small amount. If it was done early enough at the right stage and there was not too much blackgrass i think it would.

We had approx 4" of rain right when last years was at there best, in full pod & looking really well
poss lost us 1/2t to the ac that did

We used to cut 40+ acres a day of peas with a 16ft JD, ( or 5 acres a day), you just need the condition to be right and you can cut at some tremendous speeds, helps if they are laid in a uniform direction, having to cut one way and run back empty doesn,t do your cut rate any good.
We stopped with the reglone and changed to roundup at the time we had plenty of bindweed, reglone only ever crisped the top leaves of the bindweed.

The way to eliminate bindweed is stop growing spuds in eelworm overloaded fields for 18 years
