Killing peas

Sprayed mine off with 2.5lt/ha of 360g roundup on 22nd July. 200lt/ha of water. Seemed a little early but like to combine them while they're still standing.....pop them in a trailer and dry them by blowing hot air through them. Seems to work for me.

My buyer says no glypho. I have uneven ripening Kingfisher with weeds coming in the bottom, must say I'm a bit worried.Spray and no use for human consumption, don't spray and maybe a nightmare to combine! Catch 22. Have others checked with there buyers before spraying?

yes,
PM if you want a chat.

Yes huge problems from last years Kabuki. Other than the sales I have this year I shall never deal with Gleadell’s ( who the contract was with ) ADM / Dunn’s again. I believe I could sue them for the claims I had to accept on last years Kabuki.
I wouldn’t advise anyone to deal with them.

To be clear this is a problem with the delivered produce rather than the seed.

In nearly 40 years of pea growing, I've made that mistake only once, growing peas on a contract is a complete mugs game.
If you have quality, they will buy them, contract or no contract.
Re spraying off, I've never used more than 2ltrs of glypho in 150/160 ltrs water, usually go when there still a lot of green in the crop, about 7/10 days before you would hit it with diquat.

This Years crop is deffo better than last years atm anyways
some of it is a meter tall, neighbours over 4ft easily.
They say oh you dont give peas any nitrogen, i tell you what they respond very well to muck of any sort !!!

I understand that in North America some farmers actually windrow/swath their soybeans, wonder it that would work with peas, then pick up with a pick up header later once they have dried down.
Seen pictures of pea harvest in the '60's where the cut peas were pushed up with a sweep and dried on a wooden tressle type thing like mini stacks and left to dry.

Anyone use oats with peas to help keep the peas standing for the combine?
If you dodo the peas separate ok through a cleaner, or would a gravity separator be the way to go?
Expensive but so are combine repairs.
Using rape must be ideal but flea beetle seem to kill that idea . :banghead: (n)

Sprayed with glyphosate yesterday morning. Reading between the lines I think the end user will buy them anyway if the colour is right. With regards to using them for seed I'm told by SASA they can test them for Glyphosate damage.Using them myself for seed not selling as such. I think the six days dithering means less possible damage from Glyphosate on the peas anyway as most of them would now be under 30% MC.

We had some peas that went to Dunn's maybe 15 years ago. The claims were absolutely ridiculous and have never sold peas to them again. Since then we sold (usually through Dalmark) to Askew and Barrett who we found to be very fair and farmer friendly and would highly recommend them.
I've also never heard anyone say a good word about Kabuki. I'd suggest that Sakura might be a better bet if someone is looking to grow a marrowfat.
We get on fine with ADM but would never grow peas for Dunns.

yeah its a good idea in theory, long as the oat seed rate isntt too high... but in practice oats ripen a bit too late as compared to peas ,(n) but its an ok 'for forage' mix(y)
