Forgive my ignorance but john deere must know where all this stuff is going? Can they not just turn the stolen ones off somehow or is that too simple?

Surely the bit of inconvenience and time removing and refitting far out ways the on costs associated with having them stolen? If its got a plug on it it wants to come out every night.
It’s a pain in the arse to remove them I know but you wouldn’t leave your wallet or phone on show in your car in the street,it’s no different these days sadly. if the dome ain’t there it can’t be pinched as for the screens if it’s not the armrest one then take it with you

Last year local farm had 11 starfire receivers stolen out of a locked cupboard in the locked workshop so removing them isnt always the answer. But theres an end user happy to take a punt on a cheap system, like all the chemical that gets stolen someone is happy to buy it and save a few quid. Manufacturers need to up their game, recievers should be built into the roof

You dont hear so much about other brands of equipment being stolen at the same rate as JD.... Is this because there isn't the market for it or because its the only brand that make the receiver stand out so much ? Should we paint our domes green or black and mount them further back on the cab roof?

For every unit stolen Deere get to sell another so they are still making money.in the 90s sports bike theft was rife and most got broken and then raced.manufacturers never bothered with security as they sold another unit and still raking it in

I’m sure the reason Deere made the domes yellow was all about marketing, when they first came out they where so noticeable you just had to ask what it was then when you can quite clearly see your two neighbours both with them the urge just gets too much! Unfortunately just like the honey hunters who attach little flags to wild bees so they can follow them back to the hive, these domes provide the perfect tracking system for thieves to a huge hoard all in the same place, it seems the only safe place is if on the machine you are with it driving it or under the bed while you sleep!
