I have done work for a two guys that have worked in China, in high up positions, for worldwide companies . They both said the attitude was the difference. If you asked a western firm to build you a car for £2000 they would refuse. A Chinese firm would say"no problem, it will be sh!t though. How many do you want."

Only thing to come out of China so far that’s stood the test of time is the virus!
Might explain why my new Quicke loader bucket buckled when it clipped a stachion on it's second outing! Brackets wont align with the headstock. Waiting to hear back from the rep!!

I had a mate doing work in a Chinese ship yard. When it came to final inspection they asked for the Lloyds certifications. The Chinese huddled then came back to ask for an example of a Lloyd’s stamp. The paperwork appeared the next day with a Loyds stamp. When the issue was raised, they said no problem, we will fix the stamp.

pretty disappointing that a company like Alö known for its high quality steel and forging a has lowered itself to this.
It'll be the last attachment I buy from Alö if they dont offer any support. I have around 10 of theirs in total. Heard Eastern Attachments are well made and UK fabricated... anyone have experience of them?

Like the cheap spanners that bend like toffee, or rusts like it was left in a fertiliser spreader?

It's a bit of a sport in China to make a copy of somebody elses product and do it cheaper. I've seen stuff for sale an identical copy of expensive brand name tools, just with no branding. You know damn well if you contacted the factory they would put the brand name back on if you asked them, and put it in the branded box and send you a container load of such items and very few people would know the difference on the surface.

It will be interesting in a few years, because while many may dismiss the highly visible Chinese junk there are a hell of a lot of competent designers and engineers in China these days and the numbers are growing with their growing middle class. Many western universities have a large number of Chinese students and they are studying the hard subjects earning themselves science and engineering degrees rather than pissing about for 3 years doing psychology and art history. I don't think it will be all that long before Made in China carries the same weight as Made in Japan for high end electronics, or Made in Germany for mechanical components. Even now, amongst the junk there is some real quality kit at extremely competitive prices.
Yeah I thought the same thing bout 10 years ago. Still waiting.

I wanted some stainless spark plug covers making for my car, so found a company up north, measured what I wanted, sent a template and spent quite abit of money and guess what the whole batch was wrong size p, couldn't even modify to fit the mounting holes, and they wouldn't give me my money back! so found a company in China sent out the template on paper and guess what the batch was perfect and half the price...

, or Made in Germany for mechanical components. .

Unfortunately, Germany have gone the same way as many in terms of quality and the Old German quality is not what it used to be.
Even the attitude to work is not like it was...

A lot of rose tinted glasses get worn when talking about German Engineering etc, when the truth is somewhat different.

Or perhaps buy from local shops.....

Sadly the local shops will still sell Chinese goods though - as there is very little today that does not have Chinese components or made in China, because everyone wants cheap..

This is an accurate account of the equation, and one which people do not want to admit.
You go to China, say I need this or that and I want it to cost X, this is simply to maximise profit this end - and the companies doing it couldn't care less about quality.

For every 1 complaint, there will be 1000's of happy customers who have made the company in question serious profits - so it all boils down to economics of scale...

I have read here that MF transmission
are assembled in China
JCB also
That's not true either.
Go for a trip round Beauvais mf tractor factory in France.
Half is tractor, half is transmissions, proudly stating that everything assembled there is European made.
It's an impressive plant.

Every thing has a price!

Mate of mine bought a brand new chainsaw £600 odd
Got robbed! 2 yrs ago along with his quad strimmers and a load of other tools!

Claimed on insurance (premiums went up) all replaced!
Put in a camera system

A year later got robbed again everything was taken again and this time They also robbed the camera systems!!!!!

Found who did it but police couldn't convict him as the items were no where to be seen!

Items were replaced on the insurance again (premiums are now sky high)

I bought x2 50cc Chinese chain saws (only to cut fire wood) £55 each and they both work fine! im not promoting Chinese crap but for the use i have for them they are more than fine!

PLUS NO ONE WANTS TO STEAL THEM!

I once put a new chain on and it cost me £30 next time ill buy a new chain saw ;)

I had a Chinese made Diesel engined stick welder generator. It worked extremely well, I managed some of the best welding that I’ve ever done.
Then at almost precisely a year old it self destructed.
