Nozzles, pressure setup

Irrelevant of sprayer make, type size etc what are people’s favoured setups for getting the job done in terms of pressure, nozzle type, speed etc. Is there a happy medium you can leave all year round for all applications on combinable’s?

I do a lot at 2 bar and 10-12k with red jets. Air induction 131 or 157 l ha. I will change my next jets to have option to spray at greater pressure with less water

We are very much old fashioned I think running around 2.5-2.8 bar on flat fans at around 10-12km/hr but I had to finish off some fungicides on Monday in borderline wind I’ll admit so I upped pressure to 3.8 bar by slowing right down and increasing water volume and I have to say even in the wind the coverage was so much better. It’s made me wonder if we should be looking at running around 3.5 bar all the time at 10km/hr and then selecting the nozzles to suit.
Our agronomist isn’t a fan of the forward/backward facing alternatives and to be honest I kind of agree with him that something blasting in from straight up is better.

I spray at too low a pressure I think. I imagine your coverage is better if you use high pressure and lots of water but who's to say you get more active on?

100 l/ha and 12 kph most of the time. 025 nozzles at 3 bar. Angled BFS Bubblejets in the autumn & early spring for good coverage but low drift. Guardian Air for treating crops in stem extension and later where a more vertical spray is needed. I have a set of BFS Exray ultra low drift nozzles for the days when it is a bit more breezy than I'd like and I'm using a product that I really don't want drifting at all. 05 brown nozzles too for 200+ l/ha jobs occasionally

If I want a finer quality spray I just increase the water volume which increases the pressure. If the wind gets up I just slow down on the headland run to work at 2 bar which is where the 3 star drift reduction happens.

I'm a user of lilac flat fans too, 3 bar, 100 l/ha, 12k ideal for a medium spay quality. I have plenty of capacity so can wait for correct conditions.
An overuse of low drift/large droplet size nozzles is part of the reason behind blackgrass resistance and spread.

Ive increased my water for most applications over the last few years so now mostly 125 to 150l using guardian air 04 nozzles, this fits with my tank size and field size really well. Will play about with speed and water rate if need be but usually around 13kph. I have some maize to do now which will probably be nearer 200l but as its not a large area I will just slow down and not change the nozzles.

I have 035 gaurdian airs which I run at about 15-16kph.
For pre ems last autumn I upped the water rate to get 3 bar at 10kph with those nozzles, according to work from silsoe last year they are just as good as anything else for that job!
We have flat fans which I do use and are undoubtedly the best but they are drifty.
Tried a few other things in the last the 3D defy which I thought were rubbish and the recent 200l syngenta pre em nozzle which creates a spray pattern more like a slurry spreader!

What pressure are you getting running 035 at 15k?

04 means the flow rate at a give pressure is the same, regardless of nozzle type. If you're both right perhaps you have different nozzle spacings?

04 nozzle at 12 kph needs around 4 bar for 180 l/ha at 50 cm spacing.

04 at 2 bar, 10kph. Full 200 l/ha. Could go less but sprayer tank is 2500 lit and all 3 fields are 12 ha. So nothing to gain by reducing water volume as long as I'm getting the coverage. I

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
