Do you have a list of parts and associated fittings?
I have a parts store but sometimes forget that I have pre-purchased items and put them into said store. I now have a list and each box is carefully labelled.
It’s always a pleasant surprise to find you have £170 worth of parts in store that were pre-purchased two or even six years ago!

It is good to avoid down time on field machinery, but absolutely vital on milking machines, anaerobic digesters etc. We have spare milk pump, milking point key pads etc. and our old vacuum pump still plumbed in and tested regularly in case the main one gives up. On the digester we have service exchange pumps we refurb ourselves, and various other pieces of machinery, as well as spare electronic critical components, spark plugs, coils, leads, etc. for the CHP. Keep a good stock of bearings, with a labelled tub for each individual machine holding small spare parts.

We carry quite a lot of spares for all of our machines also a large quantity of fixings , hydraulic fittings , hose and our own crimping machine. Sod’s Law you will get a breakdown on a weekend, don’t know if anyone else has noticed but we have found that since Covid a lot of our suppliers no longer open on Saturday.

my main equipment I keep enough parts and bearing to fix any breakdown. Filters for every engine and more just in case parts than most dealerships. I can’t afford breakdown time losses. Most dealers are stocking less and less and rely on us to pay overnight shipping to get going again. Common if a neighbour has a breakdown they are calling to see who has the parts to get going until theirs arrives.

Can't say I keep much on purpose but was glad today to find 2 diesel filters that I don't remember getting or why I never used them at the time. Fixed a hottering loadall anyway. Might replace them again.

That's it if you remember what all you have. Or a good system of keeping everything in order. Not sure my memory or filing is that good!

I keep very little.
A bit of wearing metal for the plough .
A few bearings and discs for the drill.
Box of blades for mower and a few tines for tedder.
Nothing for the Baler bar some pickup tines.
One nozzle holder and a set of nozzles for sprayer.
A set of hedger flails.
Hold nothing for my four old tractors except a diesel filter for each .

I do go through stuff fairly thoroughly pre season though.
If something breaks, yes the show stops but someone else can always be found to step in if needs be.

Life will go on regardless.
Not worth holding a heap of spares for the bit I do now

John Deere are keeping less stock at Langar and more stock in dealerships nowadays. I’ve never been disappointed with JD parts supply.
We have tested this once. Disappointed once. We have a current model machine serviced every year by the then, now ex JD dealer and the show stopped due to a low value sensor. When we could get a Deutz turbo overnight from Germany we had expected better. Next time we buy a harvest machine I am going to ask what parts they commonly supply, and buy what seems appropriate.
