Power harrows

Looking to purchase some power harrows but unsure of size or harrows to tractor hp ratio. I have a Massey 4355 which is around 95hp and wondering what size power harrows I could handle? We had a contractor come to do some reseeding last month with a 4 meter and it looked mighty heavy

Will depend on the lift you have available and the nature of your dirt. I've worked 3m powerharrows on 120-150hp tractors and they knew about it alright (clay).

If your buying used, just be aware there are some brands out there that are now obsolete due to no parts availability.

I've had my 130hp singing fairish on 3m so I would say if you're on heavy land 2.5m might be a safer bet.

Reseeding... not potato ground, no need to go too deep. Most power harrows have a choice of 2 or even 4 speeds in the gearbox, if the harrow has a 1000 rpm input speed, tractor could be used in 540E, or 750 pto speed. Less power only means less acres an hour.

3m will be fine. 4m too big for your tractor.

My first Combi drill was 3m Amazone KG Harrow on a 95hp NH 7740 and it handled it so yours will be fine with power harrow on its own.

I remember the days of running a 4 meter Kuhn on a Ford 7810,were all power hungry speed junkies these days ?

Is that a 300HP tractor on a 3m power harrow??
Power Harrows are 1000 rpm for a reason. We're not talking hay bob here.

I've used my 4 meter Dowdeswell power harrow on a 100hp JD6400, the weight was a bit much on banks ,but coped fine on 750 PTO speed ,working at a reduced forward speed.

Used a maschio 3m dm with a bridge link and ransomes drill behind for years on our maxxum 5130 100hp no problem (on heavy clay) yes you weren't doing the speed of sound but it was fine.
It now usually has a maschio ds 3m on and plays with it. A 95hp fergie will plod along nicely. My choice would be a dc maschio or a lely roterra. With a packer

Whys that ?

They really don’t like sort of heavy PTO work or any with some shock loadings, they crack the housing in the bellhousing. Used to be loads around here that did it on slurry mixers and chain toppers

I once drilled spring beans with a Ford7610 and 4m Lely with Krm pack top drill .it was slow but managed maybe 3mph.the biggest problem was i could only half fill the hopper

4m Maschio on a JD 3350 for many years.
