Sad Day

I’ve driven a combine every harvest since I was 17, I’m 52 now and won’t be this year. With a dairy that takes up more of my time (and money) running my own combine is not really viable now.

My last combine left this morning. It’s going to be a tough summer on a trailer but probably best in the long run.

Just console yourself that when the duplex agitator electronic module rontillator has failed on the hottest day of the year and there is only one available and it’s in a depot in Belarus and it needs the entire machine to be dismantled to fit it at a cost eleventy billion pounds ....... it’s no longer your problem.🙂

I can feel what your feeling because I love combining it still amazes me what a job it can do after 15 years of driving one but since the blackgrass infestation issues I seem to spend more time cleaning it than driving it so bet you won’t miss that side of it

What I won’t miss is the 20 mile journey between 2 farms. Worse trip was in a massive thunderstorm and meeting a car crash. Only choice was abandoning the combine in a lay-by for a few hours

First ran grain bins at 12 years old with a TE20 and a couple of 35's with a 3 ton trailer and metal bin on it. All bagged out of the trailer into cwt sacks.
Driven various other setups over the years but I have never driven a combine and not likely to now.
I do still drive the 35 and the trailer, sold the bins 2 years back.

Also learned on an MF525. Now running an old JD1085 which we have had for about 15 years. When it needs another big repair which will probably be fairly soon then that will be the end of the road for doing our own combining here. Nothing much cheap small and reliable left nowadays so it will be contractors. Times change. Just the way it is.
