About 6t/ha, it’s a lower yielding variety compared to planet and laureate, it’s more like concerto.how did it yield? malt barley will be around £180/t this year on contract, decent margin if you get 3t/acre
You need close homes and a really good grain store. We have boortmalt not far and it all goes to Camgrain to be stored properly. People will carry on around here.We grow about 4-500T of low N.
Usually ok for spec, although we've not cut this year's yet, but I'm not convinced it will be good.
N could be an issue with so little rain early on and when it got rain it will have rushed it to the heads.
Crops are a bit uneven so germination could be an issue too.
On a year where the maltsters have plenty left over, I'd guess the goalposts could shifted quite a bit.
The irony is that a lot of seed spec barley will have a much lower germination % than is allowed for malting barley yet it's 2-3 times the price.
I don't see a future in Low N barley, people will only let a dog keep biting them for so long.
- sheep - he walked his stubbles all winter with sheep
No wonder beer is expensive
Also explains why Carling and Budweiser taste like they do.
Whoopee!! and the unpriced part of the contract rumoured to be £130!!how did it yield? malt barley will be around £180/t this year on contract, decent margin if you get 3t/acre
Exactly. Not very exciting.Whoopee!! and the unpriced part of the contract rumoured to be £130!!
At least that softens the blow of rejections (slightly).Whoopee!! and the unpriced part of the contract rumoured to be £130!!
Don’t understand. I’d grow spring barley at £180 all day and as for selling something unpriced not on your Nellie!Exactly. Not very exciting.
If they'll take it and not find a reason to reject it.
What happens is contracts 50:50 spot price based and nov 20 futures plus £20. So you could have fixed at 160 and get 180. Once you've fixed at £160 you are legally obliged to supply it. If you can't due to not meeting spec, you can receive a invoice from company for buying barley back you fixed and couldn't supply. Not a problem this year when plenty barley at low prices but in 2018 when feed barley was £180/t it could have cost a lot of money.Don’t understand. The spot element of contract you send it away on a lorry, unaware of price your getting. Madness I know. Guess you just have to look at averages. In 2019 I had fixed some loads at £200/t! Spot was under £120. I only averaged £150 something.
So although bossman is making it sound great selling 3t/acre@£180/t. It isn't. Unless he has some sort of special arrangement.
