What row crop wheel size do you run?

recently bought a jd 962i sprayer 36mt, pulled by a 6250r.
thinking of running 520 wheels all year round. What are people thoughts?
thinking 520/85 r50 on the tractor.
tractor is used for leading in. this the reason I am wanting to go to a tire size that can do both.

I'm running 460 tractor rears and sprayer year round on 24m. I have narrows available but hope not to use them.
I think it is worth the debatable crop loss from the point of less compaction and shallower tramlines alone. Narrow tyres are hateful things to spend a summer riding on.

The narrowest I could do on a 6000 litre 36m Chafer was 480 VF for doing liquid fertiliser, and a premium brand. 380 on the tractor towing it.

520 is the same as the old 20.8" tyre.

Have 380s for the tractor at the moment, but they’re too narrow for carting grain. Thinking of running 520s on both sprayer and tractor all year round.
save on having the change wheels.
do you think the Trainlines will be to wide?
crop can fall in to them when combining.

What’s the point in narrower tractor wheels? Be better just buying some 480 for tractor?

Assuming you have good GPS and your tramlines really are 36m apart, you are only losing 2.8% of the field to wheelings. You would only gain 0.2% by fitting 480s.

Some folk run 650 all year which would be 3.6% lost. More for narrower tramlines.

Of course that does not allow for extra crop run down in turns or short work where you might have to loop back on yourself or put an extra run around the headland.

I use 710s early in the spring but change to 380s as soon as possible. If the crop is 4-5 leaves id rather rut the tramlines a bit rather than knock the extra width back In growth. Noticed higher fusarium either side of the tramlines caused by later flowering and miss timed fungicide due to different growth stage. i swap mine back and forth a few times a year. Not much more than an hour to do all four on my own.

I’ve got 380s all round on mine and I think they are about right for spraying but we do have to use it on a silage trailer and bale trailer a bit and they are plenty narrow enough. I rarely get ruts even though the sprayer and tractor are fairly heavy. I have 650s for the rest or the year

710s most of yr on tractor and 520s all yr on sprayer, and swap tractors to 520s in may time on 30m trailed, very little mess made.
What size of 520s do you run 42/46/50r?
I am looking at a 50r. BKT do them (520/85r50). Only thing is they will be a tight fit on the 6250r. I want to get as much clearance as possible.

Normal sprayer tractor here is a 7618, which between the end of potato planting and end of topping potatoes wears 14.9r46 & 12.4r34 on the tractor and 13.6r46 on the sprayer. While its planting the 7490 sits on the sprayer on 16.9r46 & 14.9r30 which is about as wide as you can get away with down a cereal or potato tramline and a bit wide for beet. In winter it wears 650/65r38, with some big ugly russian things on the sprayer. Diameter makes more difference than width.
I know a few people that tramline potatoes and spray beet cross over at 36m successfully, but there's too much waste for that system at 24m in my opinion, and neither our scale or field shape really suits it either.
520/85r50 would be a good choice for year round, but with perhaps a narrower front and a 16.9r46 rowcrop style tyre on the sprayer to allow a bit of crab and reduce rundown of crop. Personally in your situation I'd leave the tractor on 20.8's year round but have two pairs for the sprayer

Plan A is 520/85r50 & 460/85/r34 for the tractor. Went with the 520/85/r46 on the sprayer. i am on flat ground so should be fine.
intresting to see what other people do. 2nd opinion always helps. My father is a real fan of the pizza cutters for spraying. I’d rather not rut the ground. But I like to keep things simple.
cheers.
