This sort of thing, also made by Hambrook and mensch?

We have 400 cows to scrape out on sand bedding, using a small jcb loadall?

Can you explain why in the uk you nearly all tractor scrape cubicle houses.
Im based in ireland and auto scrapers are everywhere, cheap and reliable.
Which make of scrapers are you using?

as to the OPs question, I would stick with tire scraper. We milk 300 on sand bedding for 10 years now, been with tire scrapers the whole time; they just hold up the best and can take some abuse. Have seen other herds go to sand with an adjustable scraper like you have pictured and they are worn out and sloppy in a year. When it comes to sand you’ve gota KISS. Tire scraper lasts 3x longer than adjustable scraper and you don’t need to worry about someone catching the wing and braking that or twisting a frame.

I searched for about yard scrapers before posting and you ask this every time.

Were on sand, auto scrapers don't like sand, i also don't really like the bow wave of slurry from auto scrapers over their feet, or the scrapers knocking there legs and feet.

But mainly the sand, maintenance cost of auto scrapers on sand is significant.

Currently been using a Mensch.

I run the scrapers every 2 hours. No issue with a bow wave. But id agree if only ran 2 a day it would be.
No sand bedded cows here, so no experience of difficulties that may bring

Can't really help to answer your question but to me that scraper looks built to fail in a short time with the ram, pipework all inside where the shyte is🌞 agree with others KISS when it comes to slurry

Local farm had their scraper re pinned and bushed for a lot less than a replacement cost.
we use box scraper on tractor but agree with kiss if possible.
Rope scrapers can work on sand if you have the right set up and change the rope every 12 months

Reinstalling them in one shed and new in another in a week or so. When we last ran them with sand the slurry channel blocked up and then the blades wore away. We have a new V sand channel now, the wear should be less as they’re hardened steel, but still a small cost compared to labour, diesel and depreciation.

Quite a stretch to describe bedding on sand as KISS! 🤣

It’s ok if the setup it right. The cows seem to enjoy it anyway!

No doubt cows enjoy it but it’s not simple is it you need a perfect setup with settling tanks etc, then you've still to handle tons of sand. We tried it when we build a new cow shed in 2011 but put mats and sawdust in before the winter of 2012, far too much hassle for me, certainly not to be described as KISS.

Personally I’d give up milking before I came off sand, been a game changer for us!
I’m lucky that we have a concrete covered lagoon, I installed V channels so they don’t block, 30 years the shed and lagoon has been in now.

Ten years on sand here. Big box scraper no channels and a clay lagoon with a ramp to get a slew/ shovel in which has to be done about every 3 years. Beds topped up every ten days with dispenser on the loader tractor. Cows at grass as much as possible though. All very simple.

We have autoscrapers for 1 set of cubicles, hate the b*stard things. Can bet your bottom dollar you'll come out in the morning and it's stopped 3/4 the way from the bottom once and piled all the sh!t up behind it which you'll then have to shovel to the bottom.
Would love to rip the fkers out and knock down some wall and put a gate to get the scraper tractor in.
May be different in dairies but in beef slurry where it's barely a liquid we have to spend 20 mins every day as well paling water down the passages and tramping it down the grid. With the tractor you tip the trough out half way down the passage before the tractor, give some revs, it all gets watered down, pul it back then forwards and its thru.

In short, reliability is why we use scraper tractors.

I wouldn't buy one for the JCB tho, they're too dear and complex to be covering in sh!t...
