Who was the idiot......?

.....that drove a tractor and 30' trailer from Stoke to Shrewsbury today and didn't pull in once to let traffic past. (That's over 30 miles on a single carriageway trunk road)
All the good PR that so many in our industry do without any gratitude just gets dumped on the roadside when a pillock like this lets a mile+ of traffic build up behind him.. .just because he is busy at work.
Tosser!
I remember a couple of years ago that a tractor driver was done for the same thing & I believe he was fined £1000.

Think we all need to be concerned more about the vehicle following the one in front of us, there is getting more and more inpatient people on the road from all types of traffic,
And need to drive to the road conditions,
A twit the other day wanted passed me the other day , he got passed on a straight, fine I thought he away, only 200 yards to find it indicates to turn right, and had to wait to give way to oncoming traffic, I had to stop, and was stopped for a minute, because of traffic,
As for phone usage on the road, I will put a good estimate on 95% of drivers with a hand held phone , have used it at some point while driving, and the police are aware of this, its catching them, however technology is advancing by the month, not only with the catch you on the phone camera's that are getting more and more common, but their latest one about to come on stream is the speed and phone camera that is so good it can work upto a mile away, yet why someone will sit up in a greenhouse with glass all around, and chat on the phone for all to see is just plain foolish,
Its the same in all methods of travel, there will be idiots among them all,
This last week on a back road, was following a New Holland with a rowing up machine on, doing twice to legal speed limit at 40mph, put 2 cars he met off the road onto grass to avoid collision, and never slacked off through a village with a 30 mph limit,

Post #13 OP states that he was towing a trailer which he should've been traveling 10mph slower than a car on said stretch of road, I wonder what his rush was to get to destination as it probably only lost him 10mins max being behind the tractor 🙄

Your maths isn't very good. Speed limit when towing is 50 and it was 35 miles at 25-30 mph (as said in same post). That is an hour not 10 mins and even if I wasn't in a rush I would be rather pee'd off.

Was talking to a police officer recently about speeding “ not me speeding ” he said it’s not because they’re late it’s because they want to be in front!!, & they would kill themselves or someone else to do it!!!

That’s not taking into account being stuck behind the OAP, the caravan, the supermarket wagon on its limiter, the cyclist and the person slowing down to see what’s going on over the hedge 🙄

I travel along the road in the OP, regularly. Either in a lorry or like today, in a car. It is a very fast, undulating road with remarkably few completely safe places to pass a long vehicle. There are pretty much three sections. From Stoke to Loggerheads there are no pull ins that I can recall and it is almost suicidal to attempt to pass a vehicle of any length. The next bit past Market Drayton Auction is wider ,but bends mean you can't see what is coming the other way although there are a few decent lay-bys where a long vehicle could get off the road and the last section from Hodnet to Shrewsbury is particularly bad for undulations ( or hidden dips) as they are signed, where the road ahead looks clear , only for a vehicle to rise up in front of an unwary overtaker. There are only two suitable places for a long vehicle to pull into on this bit. We had little option but to sit behind a horsebox and a loaded minibus this morning, whilst travelling along this road in the opposite direction. No doubt that it is completely unacceptable for the tractor driver in the OP to disregard the queue behind him, but as others have already said it is almost as dangerous to try and re-join the road, having pulled over to let the traffic past!

Got fined £150 ( + 3 points) at a magistrates court for being “blue light aware” in my mirrors approaching traffic light controlled X roads with cameras and pedestrian fencing at kerb for the last 50 yards and no way to create space without going forwards.
Traffic lights turned to amber as I entered the area with no possibility of getting out of way onto kerb but saw blues in my mirrors so checked there was no forward hazard and made way for the Ambulance by going through on Red.
Future times in similar circumstances I have held up police cars, ambulances and fire engines by remaining for the green to appear.
I could have just agreed and paid the £30 or so and taken the points but I believed I was doing the right thing, never again.
Sadly you were doing the right thing and I'd have done the same

Blue lights trained responders treat traffic lights as a give way . If the road is blocked they are specifically trained to silence the siren until the lights change and traffic starts to move. The aim is that no-one should feel "forced" to drive through amber or red lights no matter how well meaning

That said it's disgusting that an appeal or magistrate should not use some discretion and chuck it out

Bet it was some camera operator to$$er likely employed by the likes of Serco
