Who was the idiot......?

Just a point of

on the point of the use of phones i was raking in very large field in the middle of nowhere and the phone went , so I answered it spoke to a friend for a couple of minutes
when i came back up the field I couldn’t believe there was such a large kink in my rowing up (before guidance) i have never used my phone on the road after that .

Had similar on silage before, tractor has inbuilt Bluetooth and a friend called me so we were having a right good chat and a laugh. Must have been on the phone 20 minutes or so, so probably achieved about 2 or 3 loads in that time. Once I got off the phone, I immediately had no recollection of being filled by the chopper, driving to or from the field or tipping. Must have been purely on auto pilot. It’s quite scary how much concentration even a hands free call takes.

No excuse for not pulling over in that time. It does indeed give us all a bad name.

As @Ali_Maxxum says though, I'm glad I rarely have to travel such roads with a tractor these days. Used to travel the A361, which in summer could be solid traffic doing 50+. Plenty of places to pull in, but getting out again is nigh on impossible, with a queue behind you within 30 seconds of getting out.

The A361 is a safe road, but, more often than not, driven along by complete idiots. I don't like driving the 4wd with a trailer along it because of the idiotic commuters, reps, and grockles in cars ~ and now motorhomes, campervans, etc

Yet to try the tractor on it.

Mmm, all roads are safe if not driven on by idiots, but sadly there's plenty of them about. And even normally sensible drivers, like you and me😆, can have a lapse of concentration!
Had them pass me 2 abreast once on the link road🙄

I've reduced my speed on a clear straight not braked suddenly.
If you go into the back of someone then you haven't been paying
attention to the road.My risk assessment as you put it would be more dangerous
to build an even bigger queue where chancers overtake on blind spots
and end up in the hedge.
A car in the hedge is one less on the road 😊

The new regulations in England and Wales for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 7.5 tonnes speed limits rise from 40mph to 50mph on single carriageways, and from 50mph to 60mph on dual carriageways.17 Apr 2015
Our Ford ranger truck has a notice in the cab & on the back which limits it to 50 on single carriageways, 60 on dual & 70 on motorways.

The lack of respect for blue lights responders from an annoying minority of all classes of road users is just unbelievable. When you're blue lights trained you are expecting appalling observation skills from many but even when observed some just don't yield or use space creation. I've come to the conclusion that there's just a steadily expanding number of selfish cnuts who don't give a sh1t

Of course if it was their child / Mother / wife whatever .....

Got fined £150 ( + 3 points) at a magistrates court for being “blue light aware” in my mirrors approaching traffic light controlled X roads with cameras and pedestrian fencing at kerb for the last 50 yards and no way to create space without going forwards.
Traffic lights turned to amber as I entered the area with no possibility of getting out of way onto kerb but saw blues in my mirrors so checked there was no forward hazard and made way for the Ambulance by going through on Red.
Future times in similar circumstances I have held up police cars, ambulances and fire engines by remaining for the green to appear.
I could have just agreed and paid the £30 or so and taken the points but I believed I was doing the right thing, never again.

They say from next year I believe that all new cars will have to be built with a limiter built in gps I presume that keeps cars from exceeding the speed limit so how’s that going to work if you need to get by someone who is slow moving but you need to edge over the speed limit to pass, but I understand you will be able to disengage the system!!! So it will be a waste of time as the hot heads will be running around with it disengaged so they can overtake the lawabiders🤷‍♂️
