It wasSurely 30 miles on a busy A road people must have been overtaking all the time, otherwise it would have been a 10mile tailback?

Must have missed that post but yeah that would be some length, fully freighted lorries have hooned past me without much effort before now though, especially the timber boys!
35 miles between 2 major towns on a trunk road at 25-30 miles/hour tests the patience. Especially when there's a clear road in front of the tractor but you can't overtake.
A tractor with a 30' trailer takes some commitment to over take. Throw into the mix of people behind, couple of lorries, a caravan, me with a trailer, and before you know ot there's a tail back as far as the eye can see, except of course the feckin' eye of the tractor driver
Yes if there already rolling they can pass quite easily but if they have to build up speed it's a bit more difficultMust have missed that post but yeah that would be some length, fully freighted lorries have hooned past me without much effort before now though, especially the timber boys!
Which then begs the question, if you are travelling 35 miles should you not be using proper road freight vehicles? There are not enough places on our local roads
to pull in a tractor and trailer over 30ft long and pull out safely.
How are you fixed if a flip flop wearing fool puts thier Golf into a ditch or grandad takes half an hour to overtake then though? Have you taken the risk assessment on your own shoulders? If the road is not too fast I put on the left indicator on a clear
straight and drop the speed right down and the queue normaly

Even if there is an HGV is often parked in it taking a break.

Very easily done use to do this on a wider bit of strait road where possible or even pull up and stop on the side of the if again possible. It’s not rocket science. If the road is not too fast I put on the left indicator on a clear
straight and drop the speed right down and the queue normaly

Good job I dont go that far.Which then begs the question, if you are travelling 35 miles should you not be using proper road freight vehicles?
I used to do what you do but stopped after a few heros nearly crashed, I would put the indicator on until something came the other way and found that nobody was prepared to be the last car behind me so they went anyway, my thinking is if they do something stupid they could say "you said it was safe" and put the blame on me despite me knocking the indicator off again when another vehicle came into viewI've reduced my speed on a clear straight not braked suddenly.
If you go into the back of someone then you haven't been paying
attention to the road.My risk assessment as you put it would be more dangerous
to build an even bigger queue where chancers overtake on blind spots
and end up in the hedge.

maybe because 40 isn't slowI stated in my post I've followed cars with a line of vehicles behind doing 40 in 60 zones but nobody says they should pull over, why?
you should be able to pull along side it in most lay-bys and wait never mind if your blocking it the lay-byIf the road is not too fast I put on the left indicator on a clear

on the point of the use of phones i was raking in very large field in the middle of nowhere and the phone went , so I answered it spoke to a friend for a couple of minutesSimilar, was out tonight in coastguard truck on blue lights responding to people in the water on an eb tide. Met 4 ad trailers …. All on the phone. Guessing they were talking to each other. Got stuck behind one, sat behind directly in his mirror for 1 minute. Blue lights, head light flashes . Didn’t see us. Eventually got past, he was on his phone….. this needs to stop!
Edit, before anyone says. All the drivers were midle aged! Not a raised collar in site
We dont get many proper lay -bys in Herefordshire .you should be able to pull along side it in most lay-bys and wait never mind if your blocking it the lay-by
