2019 t0

A few days before rolling then a week afterwards before spraying again. You're leaving it late - as soon as stem extension has started you shouldn't be rolling as the ear will be heading up the stem and is vulnerable to physical damage.

I've seen someone roll wheat deadly late. To this day I still have no idea why he did it. I have no doubt it will damage the plants and would not recommend it.

Forget the weather- is the crop looking leggy and stringy or not? Half the wheats around here are looking as tall as your wellies already- with long and weak stems. Just do it, you can't second guess the weather and one day it will catch you out.
It's Winter Barley. Ccc and sonis. It's looking lush enough.

The debate with barley is always less distinct- a lot of people insist on using the later stuff as they feel CCC doesn't do much for barley. I would probably do the barley at T1 and then watch it like a hawk in case it needs canopy which I always felt was more reliable in barley, though without seeing it myself I am only guessing really.

Great rust product but that's about it I think. Some greening effect. Needs to be cheap. No septoria activity for years - just another single site fungicide abused by cutting rates.

I think Mantra still represents v good value for £ even though this is the last year of it. At 1litre you are getting full rate epoxi as well as fenpropi & kresoxim, you could use a bit less but 1litre ain’t that expensive. Did a v effective job as a t1 last year on varieties like Graham and Costello (with decent septoria scores) together with 1litre ctl. We are high rainfall area too. You won’t get much better rust knockdown, epoxi still does something on septoria at sensible rates. And there isn’t anything to my knowledge mantra won’t tankmix with.

With these frost forecast are people still cracking on with T1
Nowhere near ready yet. I think the flag leaf is still on the embryo ear and leaf three only just starting to poke out. Bennington planted 30th September.

Did my T0 yesterday !! all mid to late Oct drilled Barrel, Basset and Ellicit at 800 ft altitude.
Main stem has L4 fully emerged on the later areas and L3 emerging in the more forward areas, hopefully if weather doesn’t deteriorate i should be able to get some T1 onto a bit of L2

Zyatt planted 2nd October, much the same growth stage as the Bennington. T0’s were done Sunday, T1’s will be end April the same as normal as flag leaf will be out mid May. No fungicide T0, will wait and see what happens with weather before deciding on T1.

Our wheats -very end sept/beginning October at the humber- 100-300ft similar. GS 30 mostly done last weekend, some Kerrin & seed fields 5 days earlier.

Hearing talk not far away of T1 sprays going on??!! There are lots of varieties with long leaves and erect growth habit & they do look like they are getting on, but as Sprog has shown-the nodal development shows otherwise. Gravity is more of your old fashioned looking wheat-looks well as more prostrate & when it stands up, it is indicating that you are there or thereabouts.Ours will not be due until last week of April-some into May. Pretty much run of the mill. Temperatures and dry not hindering cereals too much at the mo-though, they will not last forever!

Surefire way of huge gaps or 'necessity' for an extra timing between GS32 & 39 I would have thought if you go in with first main fungicide now.

The latest NIAB TAG agronomy bulletin talks about leaf 3 emergence all over the South. Leaf 4 is still emerging here but the good weather will soon bring that on. Leaf 4 sprays finished on the slow developing wheat this morning.

Totally agree many wheats of all varieties appear leggy and forward, even stem growth stages are approaching 32 in some cases. Yet leaf 3 still only starting to emerge. T1 end of month won’t be far away.

Yes fungicide is staying in the can, there's little disease, frost put the brakes on Yellow rust, been so dry and forecast is dry.

Doing some herbicides that would otherwise go in with the T1.

I’d love to be as brave as everyone else leaving there wheat untreated but ours had 0.6lt Capalo at T0 =£13.50.

The agronomist wants to go with 1lt Mantra next week for circa £20/ha.

Agronomist new to us this year, I think he’d have been very brave to advise us to do nothing until a possible T2?!
