Looking at buying a round baler. We mainly do Hay And Straw But also a fair bit of silage. Want to do a fair bit of contracting so want a fairly reliable baler.
Just wondering would a chopper be suited. Roughly 5k budget.

If you want to go contracting you need a much bigger budget.

I’ve been watching my neighbour today. He’s been NH round balers for many many years but swapped to a new JD today. He’s got 4 fields next to me which is harvested barley. Yesterday his aging NH baled 3 fields about 40 acres. His new JD turned up this morning and it was put to work by 10am. He’s baled about an acre so far. I haven’t the heart to go and see him because I know he’ll be stressed out and swearing like mad. I think he’s having problems feeding the straw in because he’s having to stop every few yards reverse back a couple of feet before going forward again. I can imagine the conversations between him and his son who was the one pushing for a JD baler on a purely NH farm [emoji23]

The best baler your gonna get for your budget and too do what you want it too do is the contractors baler on the contractors tractor and he sends you an invoice 😭 there isn’t a baler on the market that bales silage well, and bales hay and straw well… 2 totally different machines…
