Catalogues aren't drawn up until the afternoon before the sale so that they can continue and chase entries until the last minute.

At Lanark yesterday there was near 1900 cattle, with only about 1500 listed in the catalogue.

Lanark office has traditionally printed the catalogue days before sales. With the ex UA star auctioneer Primrose now setting the heather on fire ar L&S, they're needing to modernise the office to keep up with the number of cattle she's bringing back to Lanark (predominantly cattle that she'd previously poached up to Stirling).

Yesterday's sale was tremendous.

Think that will be around the mark.
Sold the last of our 11/12 month old Sim stots at Stirling a couple of weeks back averaging 470kg & £1150 for the 12 sold.

Don't think trade will have come back any so would expect fancier Lims like @shearerlad's of the same weight to be £70-£80 more at least.
what do you feed your stores on from calf till sale if you don't mind me asking? do the cows get barley to get protein levels up in the milk?

what feeding regimes it been on since birth if you don't mind me asking, good shape

They get big bale silage ad lib. Been built up to get 4kg of locally grown barley, with distillers grains and Davidsons 5 star blend mixed to 16% protein.
Creep fed for 6 weeks pre weaning on blend only.
Feeding cattle here ain't rocket science, keep it simple.

Think there is 2200 cattle entered for today's sale.
We used to get catalogues emailed but they stopped due to lack of interest!?!?

They will still e-mail it to you if you ask them but find we have to phone and request it each time we are selling.

Not really progress from 15 years ago when you just phoned the day before to ask where about in the sale and at what time they estimated that would be.

Dad phoned yesterday to find out roughly when we would be through the ring and was told 4:30. Just spoken to Mum. 7pm at the earliest!! Ffs

Get creep fed 15% beef blend for 6 weeks from 1st September to weaning mid October. Will be on 2kg of this at weaning then wintered on Silage, 3kg barley and 0.75kg 34% protein pellets.

Spring calvers, so cows just grass fed the whole time calves are on them.

Nothing changed there then:whistle:

Good luck for later on. Was third through ring the other week. Rather that than be hanging on all day though.

The last sale at huntly 6 consiigners were told they would be sold at 2.30 .its par for the course if they ask me I give them an honest estimate. The white coats don't like it. But tough luck.
