Primrose certainly seems to have got cattle back to lanark but ua don't seem to have any less. There's even been more numbers in the other stirling market than last year. Do other markets in Scotland not really have much of a store cattle show?

Lanark's test is getting 1000 plus every fortnight. They have always got big numbers for big sales then back to 400 for rest of year. Ua get 1800-2200 every single week of the year, sometimes twice a week.

The cattle arent about. In the last 20 years numbers are down in cattle and sheep.

1996 saw the first two autumn sheep sales at thainstone. see
24,000 and 19,000 sheep sold. And the big cattle sales 3,000.
Certainly. Huntly has taken lots of sherp off thainstone. Two weeks ago 3,500 sheep went through that is a massive rise . 10 years ago if they got 300 sheep that was a big day

Primrose may have got the numbers up at Lanark for now, but Lanark is not a great place to sell natives, nor do they seem to have that personal touch that UA have. When Robert Reid ( fieldsman) comes out to the farm regularly, remembers what changes you have made, has drawn the cattle into lots for you ( if you dont like the draw, no probs, they will change it ) before you have even arrived at Stirling and accurately predicts the value of your stores, has a great range of contacts that he will call to let know you are selling and tend to get a better price, versus the can't be arsed attitude at Lanark. Think I will stick with UA for now.

Primrose is changing Lanark.

They now provide all the "personal" touches that you mention.

As for it not being great for native breeds, well yesterday she had Duncan Lowe, Bruce Watt, Alan Ross, and Andy Ingram all down from Aberdeen.

Not to mention Tommy Taylor, Brian Gilvear, Jim Brown, Margaret Wilson, Trevor Rennie, Willie Purdon, Jock Patterson......

All bidding up and buying native breeds.

UA is a good enough mart aside all the shady dealings that goes on, it's a bit annoying standing there trying to buy stores that already have a price on their head.
