Deere or Fendt

For what it's worth, the 718 is every bit as nimble as the 516 with regard to turning circle, absolutely no noticeable difference. A friend with a 6155R DD couldn't believe the steering lock and turning circle on the 718!
Should have said, 516 on 650/65/38 and 540/65/28 and 718 on 650/65/42 and 540/65/30

Do you find the 718 to have plenty of life on haulage jobs? The only one I've been in was flat. BUT had only ever been used at low revs on spud harvester or destoner

If your going down the 514/516 route your better off speccing against a 6130R, if you don’t need the size and weight of a 6cyl its a hell of a capable tractor!
Was just going to say exactly the same myself! Glad I read through the comments first! Would think 130 is definitely a match for 514 possibly even 516 !

I tried a 516 Profi+ a few years ago, never felt in control and no power when needed, i do drive everything on the joystick as can’t use my legs and the screen kept hitting the door when i turned the seat!

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the awful electric spools on john deere, use them for a day and you'll be straight down the fendt dealer. Right hand console layout is pretty poor too although admittedly does have some nice features.

Just priced both, like for like, Fendt is slightly cheaper better warranty, Fendt apparently have improved engines, JD price rise 3rd sept.
If you’re buying second hand go John Deere, second hand Fendt’s are over priced.

Aug 31st I’ve been told the price rise is on tractors and loaders and the 23rd August on foragers combines balers and mowers

have had a 514 for 5 years now, engine had a few problems, 2 ad blue systems, tensioner pulley fell off !!! water pump leaked, intercooler pipe blew ! everything fendt is great, engine crap !! to drive its great, comfort and ease of use , it goes on a 5 furrow Kuhn, 3m combination, front and back mowers and 11 t Rolland spreader, handles it fine , yes expensive to buy but well worth it and get the warrenty !!!!!
oh and had a letter of a deere dealer desperate to sell me a deere, saying price increases and get it ordered now !!

What’s the issue with them? I’ve used them for 11 years with no bother, I find the fendt fingertip ones big and clumsy

There's only JD and JCB that have good electric spools.

For a loader tractor I'd say the Fendt would probably be a marginally better choice I'd say better vision to the loader over the whole windscreen and the fact it will stop when you lift you're foot off the pedal will be better than the JD. I definitely wouldn't want a loader on my 6155 it's too big and clumsy on a 4cyl might be better tho

We have Fendt and john deere and realy dont like the spool leavers in the fendt i always have to have spool screen open on the monitor just to see what is happening as there is no feel to them and they return to neutral position, the JD on the other hand while a little clunky are very simple to use and set up.
Do Fendt still have the simple golf ball set up on the smaller fendts for the transmission?

Our 6155 on 650s pulls an 8 m heavy roll and hardly leaves a mark.
Turning circle could be better with a large loader so might not be
handy enough for your needs.
Dual 540's will also work. ;) Always good for field to be on as wide tyres as possible.

I don’t have problems with the spools on either make. The main switches on the 6250 are not in logical places but we tend to program the spools onto the joystick which makes it easy.

All sorts of spool combinations programmed into the 724. I like the ability to increase engine revs when the spool is pressed.

@Alwaysworking if you buy a Fendt have a 5th spool then it can be dedicated to the pickup hitch. Mine is always on 1 of the toggle switches.

Is that the command pro joystick? Haven't used one of them yet. Other joystick with the wee springy safety activation nonsense is another one of jds 'could be good but made a balls of it' jobs.

It is. Very pleased with it. Having had the old version I would only have the command pro. The arrangement of the buttons takes a little learning as you can’t see them all. It does come to hand nicely. The only downside is that the buttons can only be programmed to do particular things. There is more flexibility with the Fendt buttons.

Being able to push the joystick all the way forward and go straight to top speed is very useful.

No button to swap between pedal and stick like the Fendt. The tractor just does whichever you move.

Hi all,

New member here so please be easy on me!

Whilst looking at the rain here, I've been thinking about renewing our tractor.

Currently running a Deere 6630 premium (with Autoquad and MX loader). It's been good to us albeit the head gasket was done at about 5k hours. Currently at 7.5 hours.

It's our only tractor so reliability is important. Main duties are fertiliser spreading with 2500kg spreader, ploughing (4 furrow reversible), spraying with trailed sprayer and feeding some cattle. Hauling some grain and straw too.

We have traditionally been Deere people but Fendt has caught my eye.

Current thoughts are: 6145R AP, 6155R AP, Fendt 514, 516, 714, 716. We will be putting a new loader on the new tractor.

Haven't had any prices yet.

Any thoughts on the choices? I am keeping it to these two brands for the moment.

I see the Fendt have Deutz engines, not so sure they are as good as they once were......?
I do more or less the same duities as yourself with a lot of loader work 2k hours+ /year ,3ton fert,5f plough with 6155r ap 643r loader which is very tidy not sticking out to far in front, has 600 tires up front on wide track so excelent lock .Having come from a fendt previously (v good tractor) I felt the two main things I didn't like was loader controls felt like there was a time delay (very small) between controls and loader I couldn't even shake the bucket handy, ther other is the "brakes" not that responsive but maybe it's just me .
What ever u buy my advice is to get them both in your own surroundings if possible and don't make your decision on money alone especially if your driving it yourself hope this is of some good to you.

Very useful - thanks!
