why do toyota GB make it so hard to buy a hilux ? i dont know if im expecting to much ? and i speak from someone whos bought 4 new hiluxs over the years, last one i bought just over 2 years ago and that was like pulling teeth ? i thought buying something new should be a pleasant experience, but no not with toyota ? one example when buying my currant one, me and my father were at the dealership, we asked when we had decided on the options like towbar, loadliner, mettalic paint, what was the price, salesman said to us what do you want to Pay ? even my father thought it was unproffesional ? bought it in the end ? now enquired about a new model and availability, so far no reply ?
You must use the Norwich dealer too as they are absolutly useless.I complained to Toyota but still heard nothing

I had a dmax demo and dealer gave me a price. In truth in no rush at all to swap but thought I’d ring local Toyota for quote on 2.8 invincible x. Had the rigmarole of my details - a name isn’t enough. So ok how much is said Hilux, no trade in and NFU discount. Oh I’ll have to ring you back which he does an hour later with a quote . Do they generally have no idea what they want for any new vehicle?

I hope you answered with a suitably insulting figure? In fairness they often ask how much you want to pay a month and work their figures from there?

I was told two months ago that delivery on a new 2.8 Invincible X Hilux would be November at the earliest. Guess it may be longer. I could have the old model tomorrow I was told  New D-Max around July depending on colour. In truth I couldn’t get enthusiastic about either though not driven the new 2.8 Toyota (or likely too!)

It must be an attitude that is injected into them, the dealers down here( plymouth & Exeter are exactly the same. You have to beg them to sell you a truck. I think I will end up with a Ranger as I cannot wait ten months for a Toyota. I did have one on demo for a day and it was quite good to drive, certainly went better than the 2.4 I drove a year or two ago. Not worth waiting all that time for though. Plus I don't think I could put up with the dealers attitude. We have a good Ford dealer, independant with an ex- farmer in charge.

Had same with Ford.... don’t supply quote, can’t be bothered. Incredible way of doing business.... tried to trade my 2 year old Ranger for a BiTurbo.... dismal attitude from local dealer and those I tried further afield.
Was told NFU discount only on Factory orders only now, not available on stock vehicles?

It is available on stock vehicles as I got a price and delivery date yesterday( Early June) .Paid £100 deposit to secure it so it is not sold to anyone else, but they are getting scarce. Try Trust Ford Bristol, they are owned by Ford and seem to have better stocks than most.

I'm amazed a new hilux is cheaper than a Dmax, we swapped our 2010 hilux for a Dmax nearly two years ago, there was 6 grand between them and hilux dealer from which I bought the previous one from wouldnt get me an auto to drive , isuzu dealer gave me the keys and said keep it for the wknd, very happy so far about 13 thousand miles, heard yesterday that the new hilux has been having some reliability issues, that was from someone who drives one.

If only we got ROW Hilux GR

3.3 V6 Diesel
700nM torque
240hp
10 speed automatic box

That article says it's 230kw so 300hp, which would be nice

New dmax has taken a price hike. 3 years or so ago I bought a new dmax and a chap I do a couple of days for a new Hilux invincible. The hilux was quite a bit more than the dmax by quite a way.

I recently got quotes for the latest dmax and 2.8 Hilux. They were both range top models with tow bars, metallic paint and Truckman tops (or whatever) and NFU discount such as it was on the Isuzu. Toyota was nearly 2k cheaper. The Toyota gets a better NFU discount by far.

Are Ford selling out the current model ready for a new Ranger next year - as per VW and the Amorak.

I was told that the factory has just closed as they cannot get components, mainly microchips and factory orders are going to be at least nine months wait. One thing is for sure when the Ford VW truck comes out it will be a lot dearer, particularly if VW have anyting to do with it. Just my thoughts.

As commercial vehicles, utility trucks, they are subject to commercial pressures that is relatively inelastic. If it is too expensive it will not sell in the volume required to make production viable. Nissan Europe, Mercedes, Mitsubishi and possibly VW took this view and have stopped production and/or sales in Europe and in some cases everywhere.

Charge too much and farmers and possibly utility companies and hire fleets will revert to buying vans as they did for the second half of the 20thC. Up until the 1980's the Land Rover was not exactly common on UK farms and vans and little half ton pickups sold in vastly greater volume.

Undoubtably it will be more expensive as new models take a price hike though as Cowabunga says they can only go so far. Electric pickups might not be that far away?

It’s everywhere
A friend had a top spec van delivered recently and was supposed to have Sat Nav built in
No Nav as they couldn’t get them because no microchip-so deleted from factory build and normal radio put in
Asked if he would get it later or be a discount-dealer didn’t know and price had risen since order by £400
Take it or leave it

Pick ups are much cheaper than most vehicles for what you get, a mini is mid 20 grand now and more for better spec, and compared to a disco, bmw x5 and the like they are a bargain. Of course the amorak is much dearer and looks really good, not driven one but cant see where the extra 15 grand is. Of course a lot like to wave their Willie's about so need to have the posh brands.

Sorry this is another pickup thread!
Being unwilling to replace my Navara with another due to really poor service and back up from both the Nissan dealers I have tried added to the fact that they will soon not be available I am looking at alternatives.
Went and looked at the new Isuzu and drove one, came back totally under whelmed! And the price was out of this world with hardly any discount off list. I thought it lacked power and refinement and didn't compare in any shape and form to my Navara. However I am sure I would get better back up.
I have never being a fan of the Ford Ranger and know of too many issues with friends trucks. I also her Ford dealers back up is pretty poor.
That really just leaves Toyota, new model, bigger engine and power and good residual value. but what is it like as I haven't managed to get a demo yet.
Incidentally with NFU/ Mole Valley discount it is by far the best value for money and many thousand £ cheaper than the Isuzu! If you want one it is December/ Jan delivery at the moment. Maybe that tells you something.
Hi. I have just got a 3 year old navara tekna with only 13k on the clock. Was considering a 2.8 hilux but I only do approx 7k miles a year so to spend near 30k on a new pick up to sit around most of the time was the reason I went for the used navara and it gets reviewed as one of the best for ride quality.
What is/was the ride quality of your navara? This one I have just got seems very jittery/jiggly when the road is slightly rougher, and I don't mean off roading, even in town like going over a sunken drain cover or on a back road where the potholes have been filled in, it feels like the whole vehicle is shaking and I can feel the jiggling coming right up through the seat.
I am wondering if the rear shocks have issues or is this just what it's like unladen? My old L200 was smoother.
Cheers.

My mrs has a Mini Countryman and ok it won’t pull 3.5 tons and doesn’t have a bed/tray on the back. But engine is way more refined. The seats are of way better quality. It has soundproofing. The fit of interior is way better. The brakes are light years better. On that subject the front disks alone are way bigger than the saucer sized ones on my Isuzu. Try pulling up in a hurry. Pedal about goes through the floor and yes the drums are adjusted up and have new disks and pads at front along with fluid change and bleed. With Isuzu now asking over £30k then they need to up their game somewhat and that clanking bustard engine isn’t good enough for that money. Actually if you have to pay the vat on a pickup they are no way in hell a bargain

Depends how built in it was but fitting an Android auto/Apple carplay enabled double din head unit gives you access to better nav facilities. This assumes the driver has a smart phone. Some Pioneer (and others) are wireless so don’t need to faff about plugging phone in. Mine is in pickup and doesn’t have the built in nav which is redundant really

But he expected it in the spec sheet and what he ordered
Due to the microchip shortage it was not the vehicle he ordered
That was the crux

I was suggesting an alternative really. You would have thought the dealer might have come up with similar alternative. Probably don’t care. I’ve been petted up by York Vans ;) But yes as it was paid for then you would expect delivery of said item. “Oh there is a chip shortage“ is not the customers fault.
