Kuhn merger.

We had a merger for 1st cut, ran a rake in the same field. Merger was quicker but the chopper was slower in the swath compared to behind the rake, same amount of rows to. Also where you can lift 1 rotor up on a rake say you was dropping in where a field pikes the merger does not. High price tag to.

Not at the the moment. There is a 3m one in the area but for our needs a trailed wider version is required. The downside of the Reiter compared to the Kuhn is cost - but the machine and the job it does is in a different league. There is s good chance we may have something soon

Seen 1 over the fence last week it's neither one thing or another for the bigger foragers. Same size as a twin rotor rake but can't lift an individual side so chopper has to be in the same field.

Not as big as a 4 rotor for lighter crops and would take too long to put 2 widths of it together to get a big row .

And very expensive from what they told me

They are not just another machine for throwing grass together, they will never replace a twin or four rotor for that job based solely on being able to put a volume of grass in a big straight line.

For their high cost though some will still see the benefit of it, others less so.

surely going down the field and back up making 1 row takes the same time as going down and back up making 2 rows?

Yes it'll get the field done in the same amount of time but what's the chopper gonna do while waiting for you to do this when there's not enough grass to feed it in the little row ?
Hence the need for a 4 rotor rake

Everyone seems to focus on speed alone whereas one of our major considerations is reducing stone damage and reducing contamination of the grass lifted. We lift wholecrop with forage wagons but to do a good job the mown wholecrop needs to be rowed up to present the crop across the knives for best chopping. The merger would mean we could row up in daylight rather than slowly before the sun gets on the swaths with a rake and be handled far more gently so minimising grain losses.

Erm, you can lift each side individually...

And the driver of said machine can't be that good... Were finding a the chopper goes faster and smoother down the merger rows over the rake

Cost was similar to a 4 rotor rake

But why let facts get in the way of a good machine bashing
