You feel that are told to spin anything TM wants them to say, just like the BBC. But on this side of the channel it looks like the UK doesn't have a functioning government anymore, just a bunker mentality to get her deal over the line.

No-deal damage would be less than we feared, says Mark Carney

Headline in today's The Times.

Whether one is a pro leave or pro remain the variability of these Treasury Tipsters is irritating. I reckon he should be sacked and a rough sleeper from the local tube station employed - cheaper to run and possibly as accurate with the crystal ball.

Hey ho.
Oh dear, captain of project fear get's it wrong. And I agree, he should be sacked....

That guy is dead. What’s he got to do with it?

He’s inspired a whole generation of xenophobes though, many of whom are still alive.

Both of you should be ashamed of making cheap unwarranted comments.

Enoch Powell was one of the most intelligent and caring politicians. It was he who, as Minister for Health, brought the treatment of Mental Health Illnesses into mainstream hospitals, and as a result he effected the closure of many of the specialist ''loony bins'' and helped remove the stigma of mental illness.

Sad to say, his warnings about uncontrolled immigration and the divisive effect of their non-integration into British society went unheeded.

It is obvious that neither of you are farmers, because if you were you would have far more tolerant views.

Always funny to hear talk about "Xenophobes" from a country that voted in a racist party .. SNP.. never mind the fact Scotland has a very low level of immigration.

You didn’t hear it “from a country”, you read it from me, and I didn’t vote in the SNP - as I’ve written many times, this world needs fewer barriers, not more.

Scotland also introduced the phrase “we’re all Jock Tamson’s bairns”, which is as inclusive an attitude as you can get.

I haven’t heard that about him, I’m afraid - but will research tonight. I’m sorry but it seems his public legacy is most certainly xenophobic as typified by the “rivers of blood” speech, which (inadvertently or not) encouraged a very divisive attitude between cultures.

Edit, I see you’ve edited your post so I will too. I am very much a farmer, 4 th generation, albeit with a side job as well to help pay the bills, so I’m afraid you’re wrong on that one as well as the lack of tolerance part. Would you deny that Enoch, rightly or wrongly, has inspired xenophobes? I’m fed up of bigoted neighbours quoting him and then referring to foreigners in pejorative terms.

Alas, I am disappointed that our lords and masters sitting in the House of Commons abdicated their responsibilities in a rush to curry favour with the voting public and ensure that they kept their seats by upholding David Cameron's promise of a vote to decide if we should stay in the European community or leave.

Having, possibly, decided what the outcome of the vote was going to be, they (the fat-cats MPs) drew up no contingency plans to cover both eventualities of staying or leaving.

Although I voted to stay and my wife voted to leave, we have not argued or fought about the differences of our votes; we have plenty of other things to fight and argue about!

Should we eventually leave the union, deal or no deal, can we later have a ballot for the return of capital punishment, rises for MPs, and compulsory voting for all citizens of voting age?

Ps...………….has anyone yet figured out that our democracy is an illusion????

Well, we have a 'representative' democracy. So we elect MP's on manifesto promises or whatever and hope they will carry that out. Within that comes some responsibility for elected politicians to stay close to what they were voted in on and not simply ignore it as my MP has done. In the case of mine, she has done a complete 180 and is a disgrace to democracy.

The EU vote is different though. The public were promised that whatever they voted for would be carried out. It was a simple question. MP's who voted for article 50 are now desperate for us not to leave on the 29th. They voted to leave on the 29th, deal or no deal. Snakes.

If it took the referendum to make people on both sides of the vote to understand the lack of representative democracy in the UK then to be Frank "about f**king time"

We live in a so called bastion of democracy yet we have a Royal Family, Unelected House of lords and a first past the post Parliament. The vast majority of people who vote in this country might as well not bother under the current system.

The referendum demonstated the divide that exists, our elected representatives do not reflect that split on a Party Political level.

This lack of representative democracy is a root cause of this divide, however both Tory and Labour supporters on here need to understand that the EU referendum was the last you will ever see, no political party will allow tgis to happen again.

Perhaps when we leave, we may get politicians worthy of the job title and they may not fear the will of the people as that is what they are supposed to be there to represent. Not the will of the EU. Our current lot have been shown up to largely be no more than wage takers who send everything up the line to our EU masters.

I agree, it must be frustrating to live in a place where your vote means nothing. That said, mine means little either as the party I usually vote for will get in anyway.
