Actually I think. One of these would be the cheapest choice

But it’s perfectly possible to do the job with this at any scale - even if you run a million t a year quarry it‘s all you ever need............ just buy a few and employ more people to push them ........they won’t want paying and will line up to operate such classic machinery

and yes I know .......... it’s not new ! But no one should ever buy new, that’s just fur show offs ! It’s perfectly legitimate to cost it vs a new fancy one !

I think a JD gator would be the better buy, it needs to be pimped up a bit, and go for economics of scale that is being talked about on here, and what ever you farm now, needs to buy more land and 10 times the stock you have now, , that way cost per head of stock would be less than buying a tranie box,
Oh and you will need to get up half hour before you go to bed, and cut out the meal breaks,

Pity they didn't offer the galvanised option on this one

actually this is a good idea

buy the Gator even though you can not justify it now and then rent every available acre you can at £300/ac and the numbers will suddenly stack up .

.......... maybe build a AD plant to give the tax payer a better opportunity to buy it for you ? They will be eternally grateful on social media and tv I’m sure

I have a big capital expenditure decision to make. The old transport box that father bought about 30 years ago has finally succumbed to tin worm and i need a new one.
Now i have put together several complex spreadsheets to analyse this purchase because i really fancy a self propelled transport box, something like a JD Gator with all the extras. The spreadsheet tells me that for a smart farmer like me its a "no brainer`` :ROFLMAO:
But i thought i should compare it against a more modest mounted transport box. The SP transport box will be about £20k fully loaded but i reckon i can get a mounted one (new not even s/h) for less than £600.
Fortunately i have an old tractor used for corn carting that i can use to hitch it too, its an 80`hp JD. Will that be adequate? The tractor has doors so it will match the spec of the Gator (y) but there is no buddy seat in the cab so its a single seater ...... but thats not a problem with current self isolation rules.
Can the TFF members help me make the right decision here ....... i really want to keep up with all the "big boys" and run a super sexy JD Gator ....... but can i justify it over the more modest mounted version. Will my neighbours laugh at me if i take the mounted option? How many acres and head of cattle do i need to justify the Gator?
I can get interest free finance on the mounted transport box and a 5 year warranty. Also the mounted version is available fully galvanised as an option and does not need an expensive belt (y)
If it helps iv bought a secound hand one this week, tidy twose one with flip down mesh back door, its was under £200 and i know he has a secound one, dont think you will get the 0% or the new shine feel, but i bet you it will still be running when your neighbors on his 4th gater and finance job!

Have you thought of all the hours you could spend on the phone asking about second hand transport boxes and asking in-depth questions like how long have you owned it, where did you get it and what has it been used for , I would be wary of ones that have been used for going to church with ?

I'm sure your spreadsheet will have taken it into account, but please don't forget to include the profit from all the contracting work that your new sp transport box will earn you, just so long as you spec it appropriately, allowing your customers to benefit from the ability to apply variable rate baler twine and staples via RTK with realtime cloud based telematics connectivity.

Yes, thats why i like the idea of the galvanised one, it will resist the "tin worm" (y)

This one from Ritchie even has a tipping bed o_O

This is the 4' model but it is available in a 6' version for BIG FIELDS. What sort of extra output could i expect from the 6' model over the 4'? I don't know what speed i travel at but normally I'm in high 6th at 1400rpm (y)
Tipping? No, no, no. Way too complicated, it’s obviously going to go wrong!
