No no no!!
Buying a transport box!!
Surely you'd be better off hiring one when you need it, no deprecation, hire costs fully offsetable against profits.
Are you sure it isnt a case of heart ruling head? Just buying it because you can, not properly costed and justified.

Oh and dont forget to account for the extra R & M costs on the tractor, along with the extra deprecation from having to change it sooner due to the extra hours clocked!

Or not changing it sooner.

Obviously no one is taking this seriously because they haven't mentioned how much better a German (Horsch) transport box would be.
Have you noticed how many times ?‍♂️A certain person ?‍♂️Mentions that word , does he get royalty’s. Kick back ?.
re trspt box , a135 or dexta is the preferred go to power unit here , and has to have the black and white Animal herding operatives fitted too ,

I have a big capital expenditure decision to make. The old transport box that father bought about 30 years ago has finally succumbed to tin worm and i need a new one.
Now i have put together several complex spreadsheets to analyse this purchase because i really fancy a self propelled transport box, something like a JD Gator with all the extras. The spreadsheet tells me that for a smart farmer like me its a "no brainer`` :ROFLMAO:
But i thought i should compare it against a more modest mounted transport box. The SP transport box will be about £20k fully loaded but i reckon i can get a mounted one (new not even s/h) for less than £600.
Fortunately i have an old tractor used for corn carting that i can use to hitch it too, its an 80`hp JD. Will that be adequate? The tractor has doors so it will match the spec of the Gator (y) but there is no buddy seat in the cab so its a single seater ...... but thats not a problem with current self isolation rules.
Can the TFF members help me make the right decision here ....... i really want to keep up with all the "big boys" and run a super sexy JD Gator ....... but can i justify it over the more modest mounted version. Will my neighbours laugh at me if i take the mounted option? How many acres and head of cattle do i need to justify the Gator?
I can get interest free finance on the mounted transport box and a 5 year warranty. Also the mounted version is available fully galvanised as an option and does not need an expensive belt (y)
I think the transport box would be the best investment but fear your tractor is to big for the job, perhaps trade it up for a TE20 then the overall package will be no heavier than the gator and cause less compaction

But it’s perfectly possible to do the job with this at any scale - even if you run a million t a year quarry it‘s all you ever need............ just buy a few and employ more people to push them ........they won’t want paying and will line up to operate such classic machinery

and yes I know .......... it’s not new ! But no one should ever buy new, that’s just fur show offs ! It’s perfectly legitimate to cost it vs a new fancy one !
Can you fit Trimble to that?

All these posts and no one has reached the correct answer. Based on my conclusions from reading multiple threads on this and surrounding subjects, clearly a trailed transport box is the answer.

There’s a thought(y) I could have one of those fancy German watertanks on wheels, cut the top off the tank and hey presto a box ?

That's a fantastic idea. Now all we need is to come with a clever name for it.
Because it is trailed I'm thinking something like maybe trailer and if you could make it tip you'd really be on to something.

I think we ought to take this a stage further and buy a trailed hooklift to allow quick body changes, you could even put a flat on it then.
A trailed transport non box?

This is brilliant it's like a brainstorming session. And people think we're just yokels.

Maybe self propelled would be better though?
